Slewse is a village in southwestern Torland in Dragon Quest II.
It is one of the most isolated towns in the game, situated in a deep valley accessible only through rivers.
Appearances
Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line
Slewse provides access to a watergate which must be opened in order to visit the Tower of the Moon. The water gate is hidden in the northwest corner of the village and can only be opened using the floodgate key.
Don Calico also lives in Slewse and can make flowing dresses if given the celestial skein and subtle Shuttle. This piece of equipment is the de facto best option for the Princess of Moonbrooke.

Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake
Slewse has been redesigned from a lowland village to a mountain town of unequal elevation, with the river tributaries cutting deep gashes into the stone below the town. Spanning these gashes are ivy-covered stone bridges adorned with the heads of sea serpents that do not resemble any normal monster in the game. The town's namesake is now a colossal dam with an intricate series of gears to operate the mechanisms.
Slewse remains accessible the moment the Scions of Erdrick obtain their ship, but the player can only advance the plot by speaking to Roge Fastfinger in the jail of Burrowell. The eccentric man will only speak to them once all five sigils have been collected, being introduced by their mutual friend Elmoo. Fastfinger explains that the town is the victim of the Children of Hargon cult, which has taken residence in the nearby Tower of the Moon and used a peculiar jewel to brainwash the people into behaving like children. When he saw some of the cult depart the area via ship, Fastfinger stole the floodgate key and used it to dam up the river to hinder the fiends before making a break for help. He eventually made his way to Burrowell, where he was imprisoned for his peculiar way of speaking.
Having been given the floodgate key the Scions depart for Slewse and find it full of adults acting like very young children, leaving the town's actual children and teenagers to fend for themselves. This includes the owner of the weapon shop and Don Calico, preventing access to powerful equipment until the matter has been settled. To this end the Scions use the floodgate key to restore the river leading to the Tower of the Moon, and set sail. Here the plot is revealed, with the division of the Children of Hargon being under Pazuzu's control as it was in Rippleport. Ordered by his master to sow the seeds of hedonism and selfishness among humans, the demonic ape ordered his own lieutenants to use the peculiar jewel to brainwash those it affected into acting like children so that they could be more easily convinced to live indulgently. Defeating the boss of the operation, the Lunagriff, will cause the other lieutenant to flee with the jewel to Pazuzu's base in the Volcanic Grotto, and the people of Slewse will not return to normal until the ape is bested.
The town will be restored to normal once this is done, allowing players to coerce Don Calico into weaving a nigh-invulnerable version of the flowing dress when provided with the subtle shuttle and celestial skein as in past versions. Humorously, if the player returned to Slewse after obtaining the moonshard necessary to reach the Volcanic Grotto but before defeating Pazuzu, the weapon shop owner will reveal he was merely pretending to have the mind of a child in order to fit in.
Visiting Slewse during the game's ending sequence will show that Roge Fastfinger has returned home and that his peculiar way of speaking was not the result of the cult's actions as the Scions had assumed, he is simply like that. Furthermore, visiting Slewse during the game's true ending will elicit special dialogue with Don Calico.
