Dancing flame

From Dragon Quest Wiki

The dancing flame (originally just Flame) is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest II, it is a vaguely human-shaped being of fire.

Characteristics

Dancing flames are somewhat humanoid in shape, having two arms, two legs, and a round body with a slight lump at the top to help put a head to their phantasmal face. In some titles they are depicted as having blue fire filling the insides of their yellow-red fire bodies, indicating that their centers are much hotter than the rest of their body.

Seeing as how they appear to be fire itself, dancing flames are usually shown to be masters of fire attacks both magic and skill based. Their fiery bodies also give a kick to their physical attacks and helps provide them with some resilience in a few instances.

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime

Dancing flames are among the Platiosi that are part of the Plob and appear specifically in Flucifer's Necropolis, though they can show up in tank battles elsewhere. They attack using a prolonged wave of fire breath, an attack that works very well at wrecking the insides of a tank. Despite being made mostly of fire, Rocket, the player's character, has no difficulty in carrying them around. A dancing flame defeated by being thrown into water will always yield a Lucky Bag containing either a Chili Pepper or Fire Water, at least until the player has sent home the maximum of sixteen Lucky Bags.
