Padfoot is an skill that lowers the chance of random encounters for a limited time.
Much like in real life, Thieves that use this technique will also be taken off guard when they are spotted.
Appearances

Learned by Thieves at level 17 in the SFC remake and all subsequent releases, dropping the encounter rate by 50% for 128 steps.
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen
Torneko Taloon learns this skill at level 4 in the remakes, cutting encounters by 25% for 128 steps.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation
Padfoot is learned upon advancing to rank 6 of the Thief vocation and will cut encounters by half for 128 steps.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past
Thieves will learn Padfoot at rank 7 in the PSX version but was removed for the 3DS remake. It cut the encounter chance by 25% for 128 steps.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Yangus learns this skill after investing 33 points into his "Fisticuffs" skill and it cuts encounters in half for a brief period for 4 MP.
- In the Nintendo 3DS port the skill works by decreasing the line-of-sight recognition for monsters, effectively masking the party's presence like ninjas as the Japanese name implies. Red joins the party already knowing Padfoot.
Dragon Quest Tact
Padfoot appears as an awakening perk for Erik. At the start of a battle, he gets a great boost to his Evasion rate and Move stat for 3 turns.
