Plain Clothes (or just clothes) are a common armor item in every installment of the Dragon Quest franchise. Made of thick cloth, they don't really offer much protection. Even so, it's better than nothing and it does lessen the damage inflicted by the enemy a little bit.

You can buy them at Tantegel/Brecconary for 20 G. The wearer gains +2 defense. Due to text restrictions in the Game Boy Color remake of Dragon Quest, Clothes was renamed to Cloth with a picture of armor besides it.

Dragon Quest II

The Plain clothes have a defense bonus of +2 and can be sold for 23 gold coins. The Princess of Moonbrooke joins the party with them equipped.

Dragon Quest III

The plain clothes have a defense bonus of +4. They can be worn by all classes. Any character created through Patty's party planner will come with it equipped.

Dragon Quest IV
