Temple Palace

The Temple Palace (formerly Dune Palace) is a palace located in the desert region of Al-Balad in Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past.

HistoryEdit

PastEdit

The temple palace was once the most magnificent edifice in the desert, but the lands were ravaged by monsters. Queen Fertiti sought a way to protect her people so she ordered the construction of The Likeness in order to help ward the monsters off, but instead they forced the people to change into a likeness of the Demon King instead. If they refuse, the monsters will slaughter everyone. They also demanded a sacrifice of a young maiden yearly, but Queen Fertiti offered herself instead, hoping she could help stop the slaughter. After the queen offered herself as sacrifice, the palace was abandoned by the royal servants and those who remained were killed by monsters. It began to crawl with monsters since its disuse and the fresh bones still remain.

The party ventures to the palace after being refused entry to the village of Al-Balad and encounter Hadid, the chief's son, who thought they were graverobbers at first. Hadeid tells them to leave, as the palace is nothing more than a graveyard now and monsters plunder it every night. He believes that their queen has abandoned them and tells the party to head for the village in the southeast.

The party is allowed to enter Al-Balad after telling the guard that they met Hadid in the palace and they speak to Khalid, the chief, and Hadid's father. He tells the party about the grim situation their people face and implores them not to enter the palace anymore. Ignoring his warning, the party makes their way back to the palace after spending the night, where they find a Skeleton squire in the basement. They defeat it with the help of Hadid. Before dying, the skeleton squire taunts Hadid by showing him a royal heirloom which belongs to the queen. He finishes off the skeleton with a final blow and takes back the necklace. As they start to head back to the village, they are impeded by a mighty sandstorm in the desert, so they decide to stay put at the palace. While they wait in the basement for the sandstorm to pass, Hadid asks them to help bury the bones of his fallen compatriots. After the graves are dug, the party introduces themselves to Hadid and they head back to the village to come up with a plan to save the desert.

The party returns to the present and brings back the skull of the Serpent to the desert, hoping to find a way to revive it so they can cross the river Nihil to the Likeness. Tagging along with them is Dr. Doug Digsby, an archaeologist from the Dig Site in the present who is interested in the history of Al-Balad and he demands to be taken to the palace to study it. After the events at the Likeness, Queen Fertiti and the people work to restore it to its former glory. Dr. Digsby decides to stay behind at the palace, as he believes that he can learn more about history firsthand than trying to study it in the present.
