Talk:Great Argon Lizard

From Dragon Quest Wiki

UCZ or NCZ?[edit]

A while back, when I first noticed the move to great argon lizard, I questioned it since the argon part refers to Argonia, a nation in the world of Dragon Quest VIII. When I went to check the name in Joker, however, it appeared in the library as 'Great argon lizard'. While it'd be silly to keep throwing the name back and forth over capitalization, I'm just curious as to whether it should be kept like this or reverted back to not using full capitalization. If bosses are to have the full capitalization, should it be applied to all monsters that have at one point in the series been a boss (such as the boss troll in III or king slime in VII), or just those who first appeared as a boss (like golem and belial)? --PantheonSasuke 17:53, April 15, 2010 (UTC)

I'm probably not fully educated on this as I haven't really played any of the Monsters series games. In my mind, boss names are capitalized when they represent a single enemy/character in a game rather than a species of enemy. Personally, I would say that if it is possible to capture multiple Zomas, for example, in a monsters game that Zoma should still be capitalized. In other words, this would be an exception seeing how Zoma is definitely a unique character in DQ III. Enemies like boss troll and king slime would not be capitalized as they are not unique and appear in the field. In short, I would think most bosses should be capitalized, as most bosses are unique enemy encounters. --Pagoda 18:57, April 16, 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the only occurrence where catching Zoma, or a boss monster of equal repute, to my knowledge is Dragon Quest Monsters 2, if the player gets a magic key appraised that leads to a world with only demon lords. This is unfortunate because this game was under a different localization team (I think/assume this; it was likely in the expanse of time when Enix 'returned' to English speaking regions and released the first two monsters games, the remakes of the original trilogy, and VII, along with plans for the PS remake for IV which, as I believe most of us are aware, got shot down despite ads on the back of VII [this is a damn long bit of info in parentheses, huh?]), although it wouldn't matter for Zoma since his name has essentially been retained through all translations. What you inferred does stand, though: the monster series might have to be exempt from use as examples if decidedly unique characters/monsters become a species. I guess this bit with the great argon lizard (just realized the monogram is GAL, pff) seemed off to me because I never saw the creature as being unique... it was just an argon lizard that got really freakin' big, though I guess that'd be enough to make it unique, like how ridiculously large and long-lived fish tend to get names by the people trying to catch them. That incredibly dragged out and unnecessarily stuffy prattle aside... it might have to be put up to debate as to which monsters/characters become unique as a result of boss status. There is also always the option of looking at the entries in the up-to-date releases where used (ie, Dragon Quest VIII, Joker, and Rocket Slime) and see how it is officially handled... which would only become a problem if capitalization conflicts across titles. --PantheonSasuke 06:29, April 17, 2010 (UTC)
