*Anlucia and the heroes of the earlier mainline titles could appear in the English version of DQStars during Fiend-difficulty fights against Estark and Nokturnus, one random hero per battle. She appeared as "Anlucia the Heroine". This is the first time Anlucia has appeared in a localized game.
** In August of 2022, she was introduced in the global version of DQTact as "Anlucia the Luminary".
*Anlucia's outfit was used as the basis for the Hero vocation in the Nintendo 3DS remake of Dragon Quest VII.

Fleurette is a character in Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors. During the initial mission to Arondight Heights and if the player elects to have her accompany him, Fleurette acts as a support character, casting healing spells on the Hero and herself and occasionally attacking with magic. She initially knows spells with a bent towards support magic, such as Magnishield and Squelch.

Appearance and Personality
Fleurette's clothing somewhat resembles attire typical to the "Gothic lolita" fashion trend.

Though wracked with the pain of her brother's predicament, Fleurette is generally a very cheerful and upbeat person. She is also very flirtatious towards the Hero, and several characters make allusions to the affect that they would make a good couple.

Although she asks for the Hero's name upon their first meeting, she dismisses it almost immediately and announces that she will address him by Blade, the nickname she gives him on the spot. Although this says something about her character, its true purpose is to allow her to voice the Hero's name, which would be impossible to do with the one given to him by the player.

Story
When she was younger, Fleurette intended to become a nun at the Church of the Goddess, but left when her brother Aruval disappeared. The Hero and Anlace encounter her in Galantyne Glades in Queen Curtana's service, and after hearing their concerns over the Queen's health, Fleurette remembers a tableau she saw on the side of a mountain as a child that may provide some information. She and the Hero travel to the lookout point of Arondight Heights where, after helping the Hero defeat the Emissary of Xiphos, Fleurette explains that the tableau depicts the four heroes defeating Xiphos the Deathbringer not so long ago.

Fleurette continues to accompany the party for the rest of the game. When rumours of monster attacks at Secace Seacove emerge, the party, chiefly the Hero and his father Claymore, move to investigate. They discover the monster and defeat it, but Fleurette runs in front of the Hero, forcing him to stay the killing blow - almost in tears, Fleurette reveals that the monster is her brother, Aruval, transformed by evil magic.

After the party finally succeeds in killing Xiphos, Fleurette's true feelings shine through in her speech to the Hero when she catches him and prevents his falling into a lake of lava:

:I will never let you go, Blade! Not ever!

This supports her behaviour throughout the rest of the game, in which she is extremely flirtatious towards the Hero.

After Xiphos's defeat, Fleurette resolves to return to the Church, though what this means for their relationship is unknown.
Trivia
In keeping with the Dragon Quest Swords quirk of all characters being named after a type of sword, a fleurette is a kind of thin, light sword used for fencing.
Claymore is a character in Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors, the Hero's father. During the initial mission to Secace Seacove and if the player elects to have him accompany him, Claymore acts as a support character, casting healing spells on the Hero and himself and occasionally attacking with magic. He initially knows spells with a bent towards attack magic, such as Crack.

Appearance and Personality
As a very laid-back person, Claymore dresses quite simply. He always has a sword by his side in spite of not being able to use it to full effect. Having lost his right arm, he has replaced it with a metal, armour-like prosthetic akin to something like cybernetics.

Claymore is known as a bit of a hard drinker and a lady's man. Whereas the other support character shout words of encouragement to the Hero during battle, Claymore yells instructions and mild admonishment.

Story
Many years prior to the beginning of the game, Claymore was known as an exceptional swordsman, and was among those who originally took down Xiphos the Deathbringer; however, in the intervening time he lost his right arm in battle, and though he replaced it with a sort of semi-robotic prosthetic, he lost the dexterity to correctly wield a sword. Rather than become depressed about it, he put his energies towards learning magic instead.

When Prince Anlace approaches him looking for an escort to go and check up on the state of his insane mother in her hideaway, Claymore refuses, but, seeing that he'll go whether he has a bodyguard or not, advises the Hero to go with him instead. Later, when rumours of monster attacks at Secace Seacove come to light, he makes the decision to go investigate for himself, bringing the Hero along with him. After this, Claymore realises that something very grave is going on in the world, and joins the party. He travels faithfully with them right up to their confrontation with Xiphos the Deathbringer.
In keeping with the Dragon Quest Swords quirk of all characters being named after a type of sword, a claymore refers to either a two-handed cross-hilt used by the Highlanders of Scotland, or to a basket-hilted broadsword adopted in the 16th Century.
Prince Anlace is a character in Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors. During the initial mission to Galantyne Glades and if the player elects to have him accompany him, Anlace acts a support character, casting healing spells on the Hero and himself or occasionally attacking the enemy with magic. He initially knows a balanced variety of spells.

Appearance and Personality
As royalty, Anlace dresses in great finery. He carries a rapier for self-defence, though he never uses it in-game. Though anything but a snob, Anlace's upbringing has caused him to speak with great politeness at all times.

Story
At the beginning of the game, Anlace is extremely concerned for his mother's health, as she has been behaving oddly and taken to wearing a strange mask on her face at all times. He tries unsuccessfully to enlist local hero Claymore to escort him to his mother's getaway cabin, then appeals to the Hero, who accepts. After discovering that his mother does indeed have something gravely wrong with her, Anlace joins the party. He travels faithfully with them right up to their confrontation with Xiphos the Deathbringer.

King Godwyn is a character and villain in DQ9. He is the king responsible for the rise of the Gittish Empire. His army was beaten by Greygnarl and his allies 300 years ago, but has recently returned...

Both of King Godwyn's forms have gone on to make regular appearances in the Monsters series of games, as well as various spinoff games.

Characteristics
In his first form, King Godwyn is an immense man and he has gained many inhuman attributes after being revived. His skin is a sickly yellowish-green pallor, his ears are now pointed, and his eyes are solid yellow with small black irises, and he has gained a third eye on his forehead. His pink hair and long beard are unkempt and he now has horns growing from his head and cheeks. On his head, he wears a gold and blue crown adorned with golden wings and a large pair of curved brown horns tipped with gold. His kingly regalia is a majestic dark blue and teal mantle with brown and orange hems, lavender fur lining, and dangling gold jewelry. It is worn over floor-length dark purple robes adorned with lighter purple symbols. In his right hand, King Godwyn holds onto the Scepter of Gitt.

After he is defeated in his first form, he transforms into his monstrous second form which has the appearance of a large skeletal dragon with a humanoid upper body. Almost no vestiges remain of his first form aside from his crown. His three eyes change to black with red irises and he has a large pair of skeletal wings on his back, as well as a large curved spike coming from the back of his spine. His lower body has fused into a long tail, ending in a curved blade, flanked by two bone spikes. He has abandoned his scepter for a long halberd and he holds a tower shield in his left hand, both made of the same teal and blue metal.

Story
start
Godwyn was once the heir to the House of Gitt, who ruled over Coffinwell. Ambitious, he began creating his own world spanning empire, and assassinated his father Godfrey along with any other threats to his power. Fearing that someone could surpass him, his army had captured the Celestrian Corvus and began siphoning his power in order to summon Barbarus and eliminate all opposition. He was seemingly stopped when Greygnarl and his forces to put a stop to Godwyn's reign.

However, his prisoner Corvus remained in the Oubliette beneath his palace. Consumed with bitter hatred at the Empire's abuse and the betrayal of the citizens of Wormwood Creek while chained down there for the 300 years, he resurrected Godwyn, Barbarus, & the Triumgorate in order to bring ruin to the world. Godwyn's forces quickly captured the Celestrians that descended after the Fyggs fell to the Protectorate, and he sought the fyggs to assure his own world domination (unaware that Corvus was using him).

Aquila, posing as a defector, presented counterfeit fyggs to Godwyn, intending to slay the king and rescue Corvus. However, Godwyn wounded him, leaving the task to the Hero 9. After the Hero defeats him, he turns into a skeletal monstrosity and attacks again. Despite the new form, he is defeated once again. After Aquila praises his student, Godwyn tries to kill the Hero one last time, but is murdered by Aquila at the cost of his own life.

She has been a regular participant in the Fortune Street series from the beginning. Alena is also one of the thirteen playable characters in Dragon Quest Heroes, was one of the original leader characters from Dragon Quest Rivals, and appears as a special Hero character in Dragon Quest Tact.

Appearance and personality
Alena is a slender teenage girl who wears a saffron colored short sleeved minidress with a black belt, matching straps around her shoulders, black opaque tights and orange boots with matching gloves, sphere-shaped emerald earrings that vary in size, along with a blue cape and matching rounded hat. Her hair is a light ginger shade being long and ending in a flip, she has fair skin, rose colored lips, and her eyes are red with multiple eyelashes. Her design would sometimes vary throughout her appearances. Such as her hat and cape having gold details designs, her dress being sleeveless (lacking the straps), having a detailed silver trim, and red lace at the sides, donning black gloves under her usual gloves, her gloves and boots having gold and sliver details, and/or donning black shorts instead of her usual tights. With her cape and pointed hat, Alena somewhat resembles the female Mage from III, though she possesses no magical aptitude at all. Though regarded by most as a tomboy, Alena does not forgo her feminine side; she is simply too overflowing with zeal for improving her strength to be tied down by bothersome traditions and dictations of "proper" conduct. Nevertheless, she does enjoy adding the occasional accessory to her attire.

Alena is a definitive spitfire, unafraid to speak her mind and being dead-set on reaching her goals. Despite her high aspirations, Alena is far from the stereotypically serious Martial Artist, and sees the world around her with the wide eyes of wonder befitting her age. She tires of being coddled by her father and the inhabitants of Castle Zamoksva, and is eager to see the world that exists beyond her bedroom window. Though very stubborn, Alena is far from thick-headed; she immediately jumps on board when faced with her destiny of helping the Hero 4 counter the threat the Lord of the Underworld posses to the world. Alena is shown to care greatly for her father and her kingdom, visibly being very concerned when the entire populace of Zamoksva disappeared, and when Kiryl fell under a deadly illness. Later, Alena shows righteous anger when discovering that the MFamiliess were behind the disappearances and develops an unfaltering resolve to defeat the Lord of the Underworld so that her people may return. Alena can also be rather oblivious at times, such as failing to notice Kiryl's crush on her.

Alena has a very competitive nature as well as a love for fighting. As seen through her Party Chat, she is always itching for sparring opponents to improve her own fighting skills, which is usually the first thing on her mind. When first meeting the Hero, who is looking for the same Feverfew roots she is, Alena declares the search as a competition for who can find the plants first.

Starting with the localization of the DS remake, Alena speaks with a Slavic dialect.

Influence on the RPG genre
Alena is a trailblazing character, being the first instance of a petite woman becoming a mistress of martial arts in what has now become a common trope in the genre since her debut in 1990. Prior to this women were cast as mages or priestesses in RPGs, with the exceptions being games that allowed the player to create their own characters from scratch similar to III's vocation system. Alena is the first melee-oriented woman in an RPG and the first to be given a pre-written personality by the developers. Her path would be followed by several characters in subsequent years, with the most prominent examples being Square Enix's own Ayla and Tifa Lockhart from the Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy series respectively.

Appearances
DQ4
startChapter 2 begins with Alena begging her father, the King of Zamoksva, to let her explore the world, since strong fighters are needed more and more in their troubled times, with the Underworld creeping out of dormancy. However, he refuses, saying that with MFamiliess showing increasing aggression, it's simply too dangerous to let her leave the safety of the castle. Alena goes back to her room but, within a few minutes, has been overcome with frustration and escapes the castle.

Kiryl and Borya, her retainers, give chase; they're resigned to not being able to make her stay put, but if she's going to leave, they can't allow her to travel alone. The three set out and soon come to a small village Taborov being terrorized by a local monster continually demanding young girls as a sacrifice. Alena immediately heads to the local church to offer herself as the next sacrifice, but she has no intention of dying; as soon as the demon shows its face, she, Kiryl, and Borya spring into action and take it out, saving the village.

After journeying straight to the far ends of Zamoksva, the nomadic Desert Bazaar, she learns her father is has become mute. Retrieving some birdsong nectar to treat him, he admits that he was mistaken in his over-protectiveness, and opens the Teleportal to Endor. On arrival, Alena finds the local princess bemoaning her fate, because her father has promised her hand to the winner of the Tournament of Endor, an annual fighting competition, and her father is seriously regretting this promise. Though she hears rumblings of an extremely dangerous entrant named Psaro the Manslayer, Alena enters and gets to the finals, only to find that her opponent, who would have been Psaro B, was a no show. By winning the tournament, Alena absolves the Princess of her duty.

However, even as she is celebrating her victory a Zamoksva soldier rushes in and cries that she must return to the castle at once, then dies at the scene. The party returns to the Castle but finds it completely devoid of life. They set out to investigate and the DQ4 Chapter 2 ends abruptly.

Alena is mentioned in DQ4 Chapter 3 as the sign in Endor acknowledges her victory which is also known to a tavern patron of Havre Léon in DQ4 Chapter 4.

Though she and her companions are not seen again until DQ4 Chapter 5, when Kiryl has fallen under a dangerous fever and is bedridden at Mintos. Alena and a band of three mercenaries set out to the weed's reported location to try and recover some to cure Kiryl, but fails. However, the Hero 4 of succeeds, and upon learning of their destiny the three immediately join the Party 4 for the remainder of the game. Some time later, they return to Zamoksva, finding the cause of its troubles to be the demon Baalzack, whom they kill in retribution and for the greater good.
clearend
Base stats
Alena corresponds to the Martial Artist vocation. She has high Strength, HPs, and Agility; however her equipment selection is somewhat limited (compared to the Hero 4, Ragnar McRyan, and Torneko Taloon). She can wear most armor up to chain mail, but can wield only Clubs, Whips and her special weapon, Claws. Due to her stat progression she has the highest luck of all Party 4 members, enabling her to frequently dodge debilitating spells.

Additionally, Alena's critical hit formula is very different from the other chosen; instead of a fixed 1/64 chance, her ratio is dependent on her level. In the NES and PS1 version, the formula is LvL/256, while in the Nintendo DS remake it is calculated as LvL(3/4)/256. Both will cap at level 64, giving probabilities up to 25% and 19% respectively. Interestingly, her formula was changed yet again for the iOS/Android versions with her cap being changed to level 89, restoring the 25% ratio.
Alena is a playable character in the first Heroes game, debuting alongside Kiryl. She and Kiryl are the first of the otherworldly characters who join the heroes, helping them fight off a rampaging Gigantes that is attacking the city of Arba. The two of them are pursuing a thief, who turns out to be Robbin' 'Ood.

In the game, Alena is given the title of 'Tomboy Tsarevna' and her weapon of choice is the Gauntlets & Claws. True to her class in IV, Alena's fighting style revolves around using powerful and fast martial arts techniques to pummel enemies in close quarters. While her range and area-of-attack is not as good as other characters, she’s an invaluable asset when dealing with more powerful monster or bosses. Her Coup de Grâce is Great Ball of Fire, which first appeared as her special move in the Monster Battle Road games.
Alena reappears in Dragon Quest Heroes 2 as the final set of otherworldly travelers the party encounters, alongside Kiryl. She and Kiryl are introduced at the Great Divide, during the war against the monster kings of Al-Khazam, Kadava, and Klor. She and Kiryl jump in between the armies and rush to battle against the monsters much to the bewilderment of both sides, until Torneko, Meena, and Maya recognize the two and rush off to reunite with their old friends. After the war is ended, Alena explains that a mysterious voice claimed that her friends are in need of her assistance, and so she proceeded to follow that voice until it brought her into the middle of the war. Glad to be reunited with her companions, Alena and her retainer lend their aide to the heroes' cause and join the party.

In the game Alena is given the title of ‘The Queen of Combos’ and her weapon of choice is exclusively Gauntlets in this game. Much like other returning characters, Alena’s core gameplay is mostly unchanged, but she has a few additional moves to pummel monsters such as Glove Bomb and Steel Splitter, alongside a new support move Flash Stance to further amplify her damage output.
Queen Curtana is a minor character in DQSwords, the sovereign of Avalonia.

Some time prior to the beginning of the game, she was among the party responsible for the defeat of Xiphos the Deathbringer, using the Rorrim Mask to bring about his downfall. Like everyone else, Curtana believe Xiphos to be dead, but was among the first to realise, years later, that he was still around and amassing power once again. Determining that Xiphos used the Mask to survive, she dons it in hopes that this will contain his encroachments.

Unfortunately, instead Xiphos takes the opportunity to gain control over Curtana's body. Her servants and advisors notice changes in her behaviour and her constant wearing of the strange mask, but nobody understands why. She hides herself from the public eye, retreating to her private cabin in Galantyne Glades.

Her son Prince Anlace becomes particularly concerned, and even commissions the Hero Swords to help him learn what ails her. The pair locates her but is forced to hide as she ups and changes location. Eventually, the growing party chases Curtana to the top of the Tower of Mirrors, where, after defeating Großmesser, the Hero slices the Rorrim Mask clean off the Queen's face, freeing her from Xiphos's influence.

Curtana remains in her throne room for the remainder of the game. When the Hero finally kills Xiphos, she and the others throw him a party.

In keeping with the Dragon Quest Swords quirk of all characters being named after a type of sword, a curtana is a short ceremonial sword.

Cesar (ツェザール, Tsuezāru) is one of the main characters of Dragon Quest Heroes II. He is a mighty warrior and the crown prince of Dunisia.

Appearance and Personality
Cesar is a muscular young man that has swept back light brown hair with a single forelock and green eyes. He wears a black sleeveless shirt and black trousers tucked into steel-toed boots, a metal breastplate, faulds, and vambraces, and a pair of purple fingerless gloves. On his back he carries his large greatsword in a scabbard that goes across his chest and a long purple cape with a royal insignia around his neck.

In his youth, Cesar attended the same military academy as Lazarel and Teresa. Despite being slightly older and in a higher grade than the two cousins, he preferred their company over his classmates, though Cesar claims it is because someone had to watch over Lazarel’s reckless tendencies. Following their graduation and the four years leading up to the start of the story, he became estranged from the two at some point. While Cesar tries to act regale and mature, he often tends to butt heads with Lazarel, which usually forces Teresa to be act as their mediator.

Cesar also holds a deep attachment to his late father, one that lead to a deep anger and desire for vengeance upon his father’s assassination. This fury resulted in his attempts to start a war with the kingdom of Harba over the belief that the ruling king was the culprit in the affair, and claims that he would raze the kingdom of Ingenia to the ground if the culprit was there.

Abilities
In battle, he wields an enormous greatsword, taking over from Psaro C from the first game. He uses a combination of both physical and magical abilities in combat, such as Solar Flair and Bazoom. When he is in High Tension mode, his hair spikes up. His Coup de Grâce is Blade of Ultimate Power.
Aquila is a character in Dragon Quest IX.

He is the Hero 9 mentor at the beginning of the game. He plays a pivotal role in the overall plot of the story. Aquila is the apprentice of Corvus.

Profile
Aquila is a tall man with bald hair and thick brown eyebrows. His eyes are also brown. Like other Celestrians, he has a halo over his head and large white wings over his back. He wears a sleevless pale blue shawl with red fringes hanging to his waist. From his midriff to his shins is a skirt cover which halfway down is just the thick fringes. Under his shawl and skirt he wears black pants and tank top. From his elbow to his wrist he wears black arm warmers.

Aquila is serious and devoted in his duties as a Celestrian. Because of this, he is stern and strict towards his protegee. Aquila is someone who does what he considers is the best. Despite being a strict mentor, he respects and cares for the well being of the Hero 9. He holds Apus Major with the upmost respect.

Appearances
DQ9
start
Aquila initially appears to explain to the Hero 9 his new duties as guardian angel of Angel Falls. Together, they fight against a group of monsters that were about to attack Erinn and her grandfather. Once they stop the monsters, Aquila congratulates his protegee and both return to the Observatory. When the Observatory was attacked, Aquila tried to save the Hero 9 as he fell, without success.

After the Hero 9 returns to the Observatory for the first time, Apus Major tells the Hero 9,that Aquila came down with the other Celestrians to find the fyggs and the Hero 9. Aquila's whereabouts are still unknown until he appears along with Barbarus to attack the Starflight Express. He takes the seven fyggs which the Hero 9 has been collecting and causes the unconscious Hero 9 to fall out of the train. However, Aquila then takes the fyggs to Apus Major himself.

Later, Aquila appears before King Godwyn and reveals that he has been working undercover against the Gittish Empire. King Godwyn then kills Aquila, prior to engaging in battle with the Hero 9.

After the game and after Quest #163 "When A Star Wishes Upon You", he becomes available as a party member. During this quest, Pavo requested the Hero 9 to find a prayer pearl. This artifact has the power to change the destiny of a Celestrian. With the help of the goddess Celestria, she sent the Hero 9 to the past, on the day of the last meeting between Aquila and his mentor Corvus. The Hero 9 succesfully gave a confussed Aquila the pearl and return to the present, where he finds an alive Aquila in Angel Falls. It is revealed that thanks to the power of the prayer pearl, Aquila was able to survive the fight against King Godwyn. Now living as a mortal, Aquila willingly joined the party.

Aquila is a level 60 warrior. He is equipped with an Aurora blade, White shield, Aquila's armour, Aquila's trousers, and Aquila's boots.

Description
Many kings are content to sit upon their thrones while intrepid heroes toil to prevent the world from sliding into chaos...but not this one! Leading by example, he is found on the frontline, inspiring his subjects with his unfailing optimism, good natured humor, commanding belly laugh and a rather intimidating quarterstaff.

Doric is a weighty warrior king who combines stunning strength, stupendous speed and a spectacular selection of skills. His Crushed Ice attack unleashes a stinging series of snowy strikes perfect for finishing off fleeing foes.
His moveset is mostly unchanged from the previous game, and is also used for the protagonists should they equip the same weapon. Additionally he is unable to equip any staves, being locked to the King's cudgel, though he can still equip Orbs and accessories.
Typhoeus' Maul is an skill introduced in Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. It is unlocked once Yangus allocates 100 skill points and masters his axe abilities.

Attributes
The mighty maul costs 6 MP to use, hits an enemy for 150% power, and will deal double damage again monsters in the beast family. As implied by its nomenclature, it is a wind elemental skill and will be affected by a foe's resistance to gales.

The skill is also the deathmove of the monster team known as The Hackers, which consists of Bush-W, Hackzilla, Hoodwink, and Skeledoid.

Breaking the damage limit
Under normal circumstances 9999 is the highest amount of damage a single attack can inflict in VIII. However, due to a programming exploit Typhoeus' Maul can ignore this hard limit and deal up to 11999. The requirements for reaching this zenith of absurd power are:
*The enemy must be a member of the beast family
*The enemy must have its defence lowered to 0
*Divine Intervention must be cast on the target
*Oomph must be applied to Yangus
*Yangus' Tension must be at 100%

Etymology
Typhoeus is an alternative name of Typhon, the gigantic son of Gaia and the most dangerous monster in Greek mythology. As with nearly all Greek myths his precise description varied considerably, though the most commonly accepted depiction is that of a monstrously tall man with wings and two pythons in place of legs. With his mate echidna, he fathered many of the famous beasts that plagued the Mediterranean.
Zing Stick is an ability in the DQSeries. In the original Japanese, this ability shares a name with the staff of resurrection.

Appearances
DQ9
Zing Stick can be used by any character that has the Wands and Beyond (quest #70) item in their inventory. It has a 50% chance of reviving an ally, serving as an alternative to the Zing spell for those who cannot learn it.

DQ10
Zing Stick can be learned by Mages, Armamentalists, Sages, and Druids by investing 140 points into their Heavy Wands skill. It costs 10 MP to use, has a charge time of 30 seconds, and is guaranteed to resurrect a fallen party member at 51% HP, reaching to a maximum of 75% depending on the user's Magical Mending.
* In the Offline version of the game, Zing Stick can only be learned by the Hero 10 as a Mage or Sage through the Heavy Wands skill on their character builder for 9 skill points. The amount of HP restored to the resurrected character can be increased even further through the character builder.

DQ11
Veronica 11 and Rab will learn Zing Stick for 20 and 10 points, respectively, through the Heavy Wands skill tree on the Character Builders. The ability now has a 100% success rate, and will restore 25%~50% HP depending on the caster's Magical Mending.
Appearances
Grace of the Goddess is unlocked once a Priest invests 70 points into their "Faith" skill tree. The casting time is 3 seconds, costs 10 MP to use and revives the user with half of their health, provided the buff activates.
This ability is learned with 70 skill points allocated into Faith skill. When used, it surrounds the performer in a holy aura that negates instant death abilities for 7~10 turns. Even if the user is affected by the spell or skill, they will survive with 1 HP. Being afflicted causes the aura to dissipate, and it must be reapplied thereafter.
Serena learns the skill through the Wands section of her character builder, wherein it costs 13 points to unlock. The protection lasts exactly four turns, and must be reapplied in the event salvation.
The Hero of Dragon Quest X is a revived human who has incarnated in one of the five other races of their world after a monster assault on their home village of Tenton.

Appearance and personality
Prior to their death, the Hero was a youth in their late teens who lived a quiet life with their family and fellow villagers. Their design carries a tropical flair owning to Tenton's nature as an island community, and the male Hero is typically represented as a Warrior using the Scottish inspired design for promotional material.

When the Hero was born, the Galapogod stood up and roared, his cries echoing all through out the island. This was taken as a sign by the village elders of the infant having a powerful destiny, particularly the grandmotherly Tenda. The Hero is exceptionally skilled at Alchemy, often fixing the mistakes of their siblings and neighbors.

Appearances
DQ10
The game begins with the player customizing the Hero and their younger brother and sister, followed by a brief tutorial segment that introduces the inhabitants of Tenton and the Hero's place in the close-nit community. This tranquil life comes to an abrupt and tragic end when a force of monsters led by Nelgel massacre the villagers in a full frontal assault. The Hero is able to save their siblings, but they themselves are quickly killed.

Awakening in a strange place known as the Room of Revival, the Hero is given a second chance at life by incarnating as one of the world's five civilized races: an Ogre, Elf, Dwarf, Poppet, or Wetling. Once restored to the land of the living in the territory of their new race, the Hero must adjust to their new body, reunite with their siblings, and avenge Tenton.

DQ11
The Luminary encounters the Hero and Heroine in the Room of Revival shortly after their demise. They have been rendered unable to reincarnate due to a monster know as the Revivalist replacing the statues of each race with those of monsters. Once the raving reverend is disposed of, the duo can safely return to life and thank the Luminary with a pair of All-Weather Earrings for his trouble.

Trivia
*This is the first Hero to die as a part of the game's story.
*The cameo in Dragon Quest XI marks the first time that two Heroes speak to one another.
