183.171.69.153: /* Gameplay */ spelling

Treasures n' Trapdoors, formerly localized as Pachisi, is a minigame featured in several games of the DQSeries. It is a board game that can be played by using a particular ticket item from each game. It often features beneficial prizes that can be used by the playable characters of the game. The game can be played any time with a T'n'T free pass.

The game is composed of an assortment of various tiles the character "token" must move around on, such as terrain, shops, hazards, and chests, that are navigated by dice "throws". MFamiliess can appear on the boards, the ones encountered determined by the level of the participant. Only the lead character can play the game: other teammates must wait at the start of the board.

Gameplay
The player begins the game on the start space. They have a limited number of dice rolls to complete the game, though more can be obtained from landing on certain spaces. The objective of the game is to land exactly on the goal space at the end of the board while avoiding the trapdoors. The game ends when the player either runs out of dice rolls, runs out of money, they reach the goal at the end, they fall through a trapdoor, or they lose all of their HP.

Each turn, the player rolls the dice and can advance forward the number of spaces they rolled. Along the way, an assortment of spaces line the board and landing on one of them triggers a specific effect. Some tiles benefit the player while others harm the player. Monster encounters can happen, either by stepping on a specific tile (indicated with a slime) or randomly on a field space.

Some T'N'T boards feature multiple exits with different treasures for each exit. The player can also buy items from landing on shop tiles and can rest at inns.

Appearances
DQ3
T'n'T boards were not present in the original release of Dragon Quest III but were an added feature in the SFC and GBC versions. When the game was ported to android/ios devices in 2014, the development team was unable to adapt the boards to the program they had written and the feature was dropped.

There are a total of 5 boards throughout the world:

*Track 01 - Between Romaria and Khoryv.
*Track 02 - Between Asham and the Desert Shrine.
*Track 03 - Between the Castle of Dragon Queen and the Shrine of Shackles (can be reached once you got the ship)
*Track 04 - In the well of Kol
*Track 05 - It will appear in Jipang's well after defeating Xenlon and having a wish for a new track being granted.

DQ5
T'n'T boards were not present in the original release of Dragon Quest V but were an added in the PlayStation 2 remake and retained for all other versions of the game

There are five boards throughout the world, in increasing difficulty:

*Fortuna T'n'T Board - In the basement of the Fortuna casino.
*Ventuno T'n'T Board - In the basement of the Ventuno casino.
*Spring T'n'T Board - In the location of the Winter Palace in Faerie Lea, accessible only during the third generation.
*Nadiria T'n'T Board - In Nadiria, due south of Mount Zugzwang.
*Stark Raving T'n'T Board - Within Estark's Labyrinth, northeast of the entrance to the dungeon. This board is only available after defeating Estark for the first time.

DQB
Treasures n' Trapdoors appears in the game as a crafted item for decoration, requiring three freezia flowers, magic dye and a broken branch to construct. Adds +500 base level EXP.

Etymology
"Treasures n' Trapdoors" is a play on the board game Snakes & Ladders.
Monster Medal

183.171.69.153: /* Rare Medals */ fix link

A Monster Medal is a collectible item in the GBC remake of DQ3.

It is randomly dropped by enemies after a battle, similar to finding a Treasure chest. Monster Medals come in bronze, silver, and gold.

Obtaining Medals
A Medal can only be dropped by the last MFamilies defeated in battle. It can also only be dropped if a Treasure chest is not also found. Therefore, it is best not to have a Thief in the party as that increases the chances of finding a chest. Medals must be obtained in an ascending order. The player must have a Bronze Medal of a certain MFamilies before there is any chance of obtaining a Silver Medal, etc.

Rare Medals
Obtaining Medals from boss MFamiliess is impossible by normal means as most bosses are only fought once. However, many boss MFamiliess appear as wandering MFamiliess in the 2 Bonus Dungeons, allowing the Medals to be collected. Other Boss Medals are obtained via wishes from Xenlon.

Conversions
Bronze Medals can be converted to Silver Medals in the second bonus dungeon. A man there will offer to convert 2 Bronze Medals into 1 Silver Medal for no additional charge.

Rewards
Medals are only useful in the second bonus dungeon. They are used to determine if the player is able to continue to deeper floors of the dungeon. In order to proceed to the 2nd basement, the player must have a Bronze Medal for all available MFamiliess up to that point. On the 2nd basement, 8 new MFamiliess exist. Silver Medals for all available monsters, including these new 8 monsters must be obtained prior to being given access to the 3rd basement. On the 3rd basement, the player is able to battle Gran Dragon, the final boss and most powerful enemy in the game.

Controversy
Monster Medals are difficult to collect due to their rarity. This is especially true of Gold Medals, as the player must obtain at least a bronze and Silver Medal prior to being able to receive a Gold Medal. Grand Dragon challenges the player to collect all the Gold Medals, but doing so produces a disappointing result as he simply goes to sleep. This is contrasted with being given access to new dungeon levels, monsters, and equipment for the Bronze and Silver Medal sets.

Trading
Monster Medals can be traded among Dragon Quest III game paks using the Game Boy Color link cable.

Unused Content
A complete set of Monster Medals for Dragon Quest IV also exists on the Dragon Quest III game pak. This set of medals is only viewable using some sort of cheating device. It is hypothesized that Dragon Quest IV was originally intended to be included on the game pak as was done with . However, at some point these plans were changed, but the set of Medals was left hidden on the game's rom. Dragon Quest IV would later be remade on the Nintendo DS. However, no Monster Medal system would be included in the game.
