Roto's Cave (ロトの洞窟, Roto no Dōkutsu, Erdrick's Cave) is a cave northwest of Tantegel surrounded by desert. It is typically the first cave visited in Dragon Quest and contains Erdrick's Tomb.

It is the only location in Dragon Quest, barring towns, that is devoid of monsters.

Erdrick's Cave is preceded by the Nail Mark in Dragon Quest III. It seems logical that Nail Mark was later renamed to Erdrick's Cave after his burial.

202.117.145.241:

Rimuldar (リムルダール, Rimurudāru) is a town located on the southeastern continent of Alefgard. It exists in Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest III, but is not present in Dragon Quest II similar to many other Alefgard locations. Rimuldar is the closest town to the final dungeon in both Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest III, Charlock Castle. It is also the first location the hero can purchase magic keys in Dragon Quest, making it a significant location to visit.

Synopsis
Dragon Quest
Rimuldar is the first location where the hero may purchase magic keys. This is the primary purpose for visiting, as keys are required in order to complete the game. Rimuldar is also the closest town to Charlock Castle, but since the game cannot be saved anywhere outside of Tantegel, this is not significant.

Dragon Quest II
As with the other towns/villages in Alefgard, Rimuldar is not accessible in Dragon Quest II despite its location being available. A single forest tile represents where the town would be on the world map.

Dragon Quest III
Rimuldar is typically the final town visited before the final dungeon in the game, Charlock Castle. It serves no other major purpose in the game and contains no required items.

202.117.145.241:

The Mountain Cave (岩山の洞窟, Iwayama no Dōkutsu, Rocky Mountain Cave) is a dungeon located in western Alefgard in Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest III. It is sometimes also referred to as the Cave Southwest of Tantegel, or Rocky Cave. It is an optional dungeon which holds various miscellaneous treasure chests.

Dragon Quest
The dungeon is the only optional dungeon in the game.

It is also noted as the location of the enigmatic Fighter's Ring (War Ring), as well as very rarely housing a cursed necklace.

Dragon Quest II
As with many locations in Alefgard, the dungeon does not exist on the world map in Dragon Quest II.

Dragon Quest III
The dungeon is one of several optional dungeons/towers in the game.

202.117.145.241:

Mercado (メルキド, Merukido, Cantlin) is a walled city located in the south central region of Alefgard. It exists in Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest III. It does not appear in Dragon Quest II similar to many other locations in Alefgard. Mercado is most famous for being guarded by a golem in Dragon Quest.

Synopsis
Dragon Quest
In Dragon Quest, the city of Mercado is typically the last major city the hero visits. It is surrounded by some of the strongest outer world monsters. When first approached, the city is guarded by a golem monster, which is triggered when the hero first attempts to enter the mountain range surrounding the city. This battle is a one time event, and is the only place where a golem can be encountered. The weapons and armor shop in Mercado sells the best equipment the character can purchase in the game. Despite all of this, Mercado is a not a required location to visit in order to complete the game.

Dragon Quest III
In Dragon Quest III, Mercado contains references to its future representation in Dragon Quest, such as a man contemplating the construction of a golem to protect the city from attackers. Although all of the shops listed below exist, none of them are occupied or sell anything. The residents of the town have given up working due to the archfiend.

202.117.145.241:

Kol (マイラ, Maira) is a village in northeastern Alefgard. It appears in Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest III. It did not appear in Dragon Quest II like many other locations in Alefgard.

Synopsis
Dragon Quest
Kol is typically the third town the hero visits. It does not contain any essential items for completing the game. The Fairy Flute is hidden four steps south of the fountain and is useful for defeating the Golem outside Mercado.

Dragon Quest II
As is the case with most of the towns/villages in Alefgard, Kol is not accessible in Dragon Quest II. Its location on the world map is covered with forest.

Dragon Quest III
Kol contains the item shop which sells the Sword of kings, which is the hero's strongest weapon in the original Dragon Quest III (but not in remakes). The sword is for sale after selling Orichalcum to the Zipangu shopkeeper and re-entering the village.

Nearby enemies
* Ghoul
* Goopi
* Skullgon
* Wing demon

Puff-Puff
In the SNES and GBC versions of Dragon Quest, the hero can receive a puff-puff near the bath for 20 gold. All references to puff-puff were removed from the original NES version as they were seen as too risque.

Domdora (ドムドーラ, Domudōra, Hauksness) is a town in the desert in southwestern Alefgard. It exists in Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest III.

Appearances
Dragon Quest
Domdora was destroyed by the DragonLord's minions and has since become infested with their kind. Erdrick's Armor, the strongest armor in the game, can be found in the ruins but is protected by an Axe Knight.

Dragon Quest II
With no apparent survivors of the destruction of the town, nothing is ever done to Domdora to restore it. The ruined settlement is consumed by the surrounding desert.

Dragon Quest III
In Dragon Quest III, Domdora is a normal town. It is the location of Orichalcum which is needed to make the Sword of Kings.

Garinham (ガライ, Garai) is a town located in the northwestern corner of Alefgard in Dragon Quest. It is named for its founder, Garin who owned the Silver Harp. It was preceded by the House of Garin which was present during the events of Dragon Quest III. It does not appear in Dragon Quest II along with many other locations in Alefgard.

Synopsis
Garinham is typically the first major town the hero visits after Tantegel. It is also revisited later in the game after the hero has obtained a supply of Magic Keys, giving the hero access to Garin's Tomb.

Charlock Castle (竜王の城, Ryūō no Shiro, DracoLord's Castle; ゾーマの城, Zōma no Shiro, Zoma's Castle) is the name of the final dungeon in Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest III. It also appears as a dungeon in Dragon Quest II but is not vital to the plot of the game. It is located in the central area of Alefgard, across the water to the southeast of Tantegel.

Synopsis
Charlock Castle generally serves as a main hideout for evil enemies. This is slightly less true in Dragon Quest II, where it has been primarily abandoned.

Dragon Quest
Ruled by the Dragonlord. Erdrick's Sword is found here.

Dragon Quest II
No great evil dwells here now, merely the grandson of the Dragonlord. Once again, Erdrick's Sword is located here.

Dragon Quest III
Ruled by Zoma. It is's also the place where Ortega meets his death at the hands of King Hydra

Hidden staircase
The castle has a hidden staircase on the first floor which is the correct path to reach the innermost areas of the castle in both Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest III. This staircase is referred to by various NPCs in both Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest III. In order to find the stairs, the hero must search behind the thrones in the middle of the first floor. All other paths from the first floor lead to a neverending maze.

Version Differences
The castle in Dragon Quest III is notably larger than the castle in Dragon Quest. This seems backwards as the events of Dragon Quest actually take place several hundred years after the events of Dragon Quest III. Overall, a majority of the floor layouts are nearly identical between the two games.

202.117.145.241: /* Trivia */

Tantegel (ラダトーム, Radatōmu, Ladutorm) is a castle and nearby town which serve as the capital of Alefgard. It is featured in the first three Dragon Quest games: Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest II, and Dragon Quest III, as part of the Erdrick Trilogy. Tantegel is the starting and central location in the original Dragon Quest. It is the only location in Alefgard which has a castle and a reigning king.

In the original Famicom release of Dragon Quest, the town surrounding the Ladutorm Castle (ラダトーム城, Radatōmu Shiro)is called the same name as the castle, Ladutorm Town (ラダトームの町, Radatōmu no Machi). When the game was localized and released overseas it was decided to give the castle and town different names (Tantegel and Brecconary respectively). In all other English version releases both town and castle are referred to as Tantegel, and combined into one icon on the world map.

Synopsis
Dragon Quest
Tantegel is a location of central importance in Dragon Quest for many reasons.

* It is the starting location for the hero of the game.
* It is the only location where the player can save the game.
* It is the only castle in Alefgard that has a reigning king.
* It is the largest city (castle and town combined) in the game.
* It contains one of the essential items to complete the game (Stones of Sunlight).
* It is the location the hero returns to after completing the game.

Dragon Quest II
In Dragon Quest II, Tantegel is much less important. It is not reached until nearly halfway into the game, and the king is hiding out of fear of Hargon. No major items/information are located there and it can be skipped altogether if desired.

Dragon Quest III
Tantegel is the location of central importance in the 'dark world' of Alefgard in Dragon Quest III. It contains the essential Stones of Sunlight item in this game as well. It also serves as the location the heroes return to after completing the game, similar to Dragon Quest.
In Dragon Quest there is a magic key shop located in Tantegel castle behind a magic key door. This is convenient as the hero does not have to travel back to Rimuldar in order to purchase more magic keys.
Trivia
* One reason the town may have been given a different name in the NES version, is because the localizers may have thought that it would be odd to call it the same name as its castle, as it is entirely separate from the castle on the world map. However, in Dragon Quest II and III, Tantegel is composed of both combined locations.

202.117.145.241: /* Synopsis */

In Dragon Quest there is a fairy water shop located behind a magic key door in the town portion of Tantegel. In Dragon Quest II this shop has been replaced by a house of healing. Fairy water was added to item shops in later games, rather than having its own shop.

In Dragon Quest there is a fairy water shop located behind a magic key door in the town portion of Tantegel. In Dragon Quest II this shop has been replaced by a house of healing. Fairy water was added to item shops in later games, rather than having its own shop.
Trivia
* One reason the town may have been given a different name in the NES version, is because the localizers may have thought that it would be odd to call it the same name as its castle, as it is entirely separate from the castle on the world map. However, in Dragon Quest II and III, Tantegel is composed of both combined locations.
