The gold digger is a mass of once-liquid gold that has since hardened into uneven ingots. The pile of precious metal serves as an ideal target for amassing quick cash.

The monster formerly shared it's Japanese name with the gold golem from its debut in 1988 through 2025, when it was rechristened in the May 23rd update patch for DQ3HD.
Bonus dungeon

76.136.198.194: Fixed several typos and instances of odd grammar.

A Bonus dungeon is a location in a Main Series game, usually accessible only after completing the main storyline of the game. It is considered additional bonus content to the main content of the game and typically features special rewards, challenges, or Easter eggs.

The concept of a bonus dungeon first appeared in DQ5, and at least one has appeared in subsequent installment of the series, as well as several remakes of past titles.

Appearances
DQ3
Both the Super Famicom and Game Boy Color versions contain a bonus dungeon that is accessible from the Castle of the Dragon Queen after defeating Zoma. A lone Baramonster appears at the end of the dungeon, which in turn leads to Cloudsgate Citadel 3 (Zenithia). The dungeon is a cave made up of layouts from the previous dungeons. At the end of the dungeon awaits the dragon Xenlon, who can grant few wishes if the Party 3 can defeat him in a strict limit of time.

In the Game Boy Color version, the spot that was occupied by Ramia in Rimland will become a portal to the Ice Cave, a second Bonus Dungeon with its own boss. The entrance will become available after making a wish to Xenlon to open it.

DQ4
The remakes of the fourth title introduced the Fungeon 4 and Chapter Six. Located beneath The Azimuth, this immense and strange dungeon featured many creatures from later games and culminated with the bizarre bonus bosses Chow Mein and Foo Yung. After defeating them the first time, a side quest starts that enables the player to resurrect an individual and recruit a Psaro 9 as a Party 4 member. The bonus bosses can be fought again to obtain special gear exclusive to the new character.

DQ5
The first bonus dungeon included in the original release is Estark's Labyrinth, which contains the eponymous superboss Estark as a cameo from IV. In all remakes, after defeating Estark a special T'n'T board aptly named "Stark Raving Mad" will be made available to the player; if the player manages to reach the finish square, it unlocks two unique and powerful monster companions.

DQ6
After defeating the final boss, if the Party 6 have between them reached the fifth rank of every single Vocation, including the secret Dragon V and Liquid metal slime, then they can enter the Fungeon 6 through the back chamber of Alltrades Abbey 6 in the Upper World. Besides taking the Hero 6 and Party 6 to a grim mirror of Weaver's Peak, with some of the rarest items for purchase, the Fungeon 6 is home to one of the most powerful MFamiliess in the entire series, the demon lord who destroyed Castle Graceskull: the great and terrible Nokturnus. If the Party 6 can defeat him within 20 turns, the player will be treated to a very special ending variant of the final battle against Mortamor.

DQ7
The seventh title features two bonus dungeons to spelunk once the demonlord is vanquished: the Cave to Another World and the Cave to Yet Another World. Both of these extras require their own sets of Fragments to be amassed and assembled in the Shrine of Mysteries, and consist of recycled areas explored earlier in the game with more powerful monsters and greater treasures. At the end of the first bonus dungeon is a deity, who will offer the Party 7 a friendly bout after congratulating them for their undertakings. The fight at the end of the second dungeon is the quartet of elementals: the Earth Spirit, Fire Spirit, Water Spirit, and Wind Spirit. They aggressively defend the humble dwelling of the first bonus boss and will not even allow the warriors of Eden to approach it.

DQ8
The bonus dungeons are composed of the Dragovian Path, followed by the Heavenly Dais with the Dragovian Sanctuary serving as rest area between the two places – the latter featuring a sidequest that uncovers Eight's heritage. After defeating the Lord of the Dragovians, the Dragovian Trials become available and a new ending occurs after defeating the final boss again. In the version, there are two new bonus dungeons, the Altar of Wroth and Memories Lane. The Altar of Wroth can be accessed after the destruction of Neos and visiting the depths of Dragon Graveyard to talk to Golding's ancestor and the Memories Lane is unlocked by the Lord of the Dragovians as a prize for completing one of the Dragovian Trials.

DQ9
The Tower of Nod becomes available after completing the main storyline and obtaining the Starflight Express. Furthermore, the extensive Grotto system functions as sort of bonus dungeon in and of itself, with absurdly powerful bosses waiting within rivaling those seen in previous games--not to mention those old foes themselves in the form of Legacy Bosses.

DQ11
After enhancing Cetacea to reach the final boss in Act 3, the entrance of Drustan's labyrinth opens in the ruins of the Zwaardsrust region. The dungeon is composed of several recycled parts of the game with the Trial Isle as rest area in the middle of the dungeon. Three trials with powerful bonus bosses await, and wishes are granted based on defeating these bosses within a certain turn limit. The and the Definitive Edition versions of the game feature the Echo Chamber, which has different dungeons referencing areas and bosses of previous Main Series entries. These dungeons open up as Tockles are found in the world.

Elfin elixirs are some of the most potent items in the Dragon Quest series, replenishing every MP to whomever drinks a flask. They first appeared in Dragon Quest V, and have become a series mainstay with the dawn of the 3D era in Dragon Quest VIII.
10 elfin elixirs are required to pass the southwest portion of the Temple of Trials, requiring spending 400,000 gold if the player has no elixirs on hand. Previous to the May 23, 2025 patch, 25 elfin elixirs were required – necessitating an eye-watering 1,000,000 gold. They appear in later stages of the game, being dropped by some monsters or smashing pots and barrels. |old=None
}}
The Temple of Trials is the second bonus dungeon found in DQ3HD, hidden from the player until the godly Xenlon has been defeated. It is the celestial replacement for the Ice Cave that was found in the GBC version of Dragon Quest III, and contains all the monsters that remained exclusive to that iteration of the game for several decades. The temple more than lives up to its name, challenging the player with the most difficult ordeals in the game.
Appearances
DQ3HD
The temple is a heavenly palace made of gold that sits in the highest reaches of the world, towering even higher than the lofty Cloudsgate Citadel 3, with the apex of the holy place standing parallel with the moon. The only way to access the Temple of Trials is make a wish on Xenlon after besting Him in battle——this wish is represented by a blank space under the list of choices presented after the battle is over. Doing so will leave Him utterly shocked as to how the player even knows of its existence, but He never the less grants the request by opening a glowing portal high in the sky to the north of Aliahan. Reaching the ephemeral gate requires Ramia's assistance, and she will perch on plinth in the temple's central chamber until the player opts to leave.

The crux of the bonus dungeon is that the player is forbidden entry to the road leading to the top of the temple until the five pedestals surrounding Ramia's plinth have been set alight by the five grey ghosts inhabiting the palace. These spirits dwell in the the five chambers accessible via teleportals and each presents a different challenge to the player.

Northeast chamber
This trial forces the player to equip axes or staves before entering, otherwise the party's damage output will be cut to 10% and the power of all monsters will be multiplied tenfold. The test at the end of the maze is a boulder puzzle similar to the one found in the basement of Edina castle, leading the way to the pandora's box boss fight. These super-charged mimmics far outclass their common kin and are almost impossible to defeat normally, but are thankfully vulnerable to Blasto and Poof.

Northwest chamber
The trial demands that all characters be equipped with boomerangs or claws lest the party suffer the same penalties as in the northeast chamber. The puzzle is floor of rotating tiles like those found in the Tower of Rubiss and Zoma's Citadel, with the boss battle being another group of pandora's boxes that can be bested via banishment.

Southwest chamber
This trial consists of a spirit requesting to see several items and equipment before it will light it's pedestal, being in order:

*Hardwood headwear x4
*Staff of sentencing x4
*Epic apron x4
*Slime earrings x4
*Magic water x25
*Elfin elixir x10 (x25 prior to the May 23, 2025 patch)
*Flame armour x4

The elfin elixir is sold in the Super Secret Faerie Village for an exorbitant 40,000 gold per phial, costing the player 400,000 gold in total (1,000,000 gold prior to the May 23, 2025 patch) if none are already on hand. The cash prizes for conquering the higher ranks of the Monster Arena will go a long way to covering this steep bill, and none of the necessary items are taken from the party during the trial.

Southeast chamber
This trial also consists of a spirit that wishes to see certain items before lighting it's pedestal, only the objects are almost exclusively high-end equipment:

*Sword of Kings
*Auroral helm
*Gringham whip
*Mod rod

Due to the removal of the Treasures n' Trapdoors boards in the HD remake the only way to get a spare mod rod is by winning rank 8 of the Monster Arena in Cantlin. The gringham whip is the most difficult piece as it can only be obtained by collecting 105 mini medals; as there are only 110 medals in the game and five of those are within Cloudsgate Citadel and the Temple of Trials itself, the player can only miss five medals.

Southern chamber
The spirit of this trial will only light it's pedestal once the player has recruited 100 monsters.

Northern chamber
Once all five pedestals are activate the door to the north opens, revealing a winding road that leads to none other than the Grand Dragon. Despite quite literally towering over all other life on the planet, the golden serpent maintains a more approachable disposition towards mortals than Xenlon and will bequeath the party with the lofted grand medal if he can be defeated in twenty turns or less.

Treasures
*Destructiball (northeast chamber)
*Duplic hat (northeast chamber)
*Godbird armour (northeast chamber)
*Godbird sceptre (northwest chamber)
*Goddess shield (northwest chamber)
*Mini medal (northeast chamber)
*Mini medal (northwest chamber)

Monsters
*Arcticore
*Blue dragon
*Dread dragon
*Golden gloom
*Hardy hand
*Iron knight
*Pandora's box
*Steely statue
*Ursa argentum

Recruitable monsters
*Baramonster, in the northwest chamber
*Great keeper, in the northeast chamber
*Slime, in a corner of the southern chamber
*Xenlon, lounging on the path to the Grand Dragon

Trivia
*The temple being a heavenly palace made of gold and only being accessible via a high-altitude portal once a superboss is defeated, as well as housing the game's ultimate superboss, is not unlike the rift in the skies of Erdrea that houses the Timewyrm

A Bonus dungeon is a location in a Main Series game which is accessible after completing the main storyline of the game. It is considered additional bonus content to the main content of the game and typically features special rewards, challenges, or easter eggs.

The concept of a bonus dungeon first appeared in DQ5, and has appeared in each new installment and several remakes of past titles since.

Appearances
At the end of the dungeon wait the dragon Xenlon who can grant few wishes if the Party 3 can defeat her in a strict limit of time.

In the Game Boy Color version, in Rimland the spot that was occupied by Ramia will become a portal to the Ice Cave, a second Bonus Dungeon with his own boss. The entrance, will become available after making a wish to Xenlon to open it.

DQ4
The remakes of the fourth title introduced the Fungeon 4 and chapter.

DQ5
The first bonus dungeon included in an original release is Estark's Labyrinth, which contains the eponymous superboss Estark as a cameo from IV.

Besides taking the Hero 6 and Party 6 to a grim mirror of Weaver's Peak, with some of the rarest items for purchase, the Fungeon 6 is home to one of the most powerful MFamiliess in the entire series, the demon lord who destroyed Castle Graceskull, the great and terrible Nokturnus.

DQ8
The bonus dungeons is composed of the Dragovian Path, following by the Heavenly Dais with the Dragovian Sanctuary serving as rest area between the two places, which features a sidequest that uncovers Eight's heritage. After defeating the Lord of the Dragovians, the Dragovians Trials become available and a new ending occurs after defeating the final boss again.

Furthermore, the extensive Grotto system functions as sort of bonus dungeon in and of itself, with the absurdly powerful bosses waiting within rivialing those seen in previous games--not to mention those old foes themselves in the form of Legacy Bosses.

DQ11
After enhancing Cetacea to reach the final boss in Act 3, the entrance of Drustan's labyrinth, opens in the ruins of the Zwaardsrust region. The dungeon is composed of several recycled parts of the game with the Trial Isle as rest area in the middle of the dungeon. Three trials with powerful bonus bosses await, and wishes are granted based on defeating these bosses within a certain turn limit. The and the Definitive Edition feature the Echo Chamber, which has different dungeons referencing areas and bosses of previous Main Series entries. These dungeons open up as Tockles are found in the world.
The remakes of the fourth title introduced the Fungeon 4 and chapter.

DQ5
The first bonus dungeon included in an original release is Estark's Labyrinth, which contains the eponymous superboss Estark as a cameo from IV.

Furthermore, the extensive Grotto system functions as sort of bonus dungeon in and of itself, with the absurdly powerful bosses waiting within rivialing those seen in previous games--not to mention those old foes themselves in the form of Legacy Bosses.

DQ11
After enhancing Cetacea to reach the final boss in the Act 3, the entrance of the bonus dungeon, Drustan's labyrinth, is open in the ruins of the Zwaardsrust region. The dungeon is composed of several recycled parts of the game with the Trial Isle as rest area in the middle of the dungeon. Three trials with powerful bonus bosses await, each of whom grant wishes if they are beaten under a turn limit. The and the Definitive Edition have the Echo Chamber, which has different dungeons referencing areas and bosses of previous Main Series entries. These dungeons open up as Tockles are found in the world.
