The Grand Dragon is a MFamilies that first appeared in the Game Boy Color remake of DQ3. It serves as the definitive superboss, surpassing both Zoma and Xenlon in difficulty.

Appearances
DQ3
The Gran Dragon can be found in the deepest level of the GBC Exclusive bonus dungeon, the Ice Cave. In order to make it to the Gran Dragon, The Hero 3 must have the first 155 Bronze Monster Medals, and the first 155 Silver Monster Medals.

The GranD Dragon attacks exactly as Xenlon does. Defeating him for the first time merits rewarding The Hero 3 with the Rubiss sword. Defeating him in under 18 turns will result in it awarding The Hero 3 with his own Monster Medals. Talking to the Gran Dragon after obtaining all Gold Monster Medals results in the hydra congratulating the player for their hard work, then falling asleep.
Defeating Grand Dragon within 20 turns yields no reward beyond his complimenting the player and the Grand Medal, an item that only serves as a bragging right.

Unlike Xenlon, Grand Dragon has a lower resistance to Confusion than Sleep, making it a better ailment to inflict on him if you're going for Persecutter.

Not listed above are the numbers of turns shaved off of status ailments. They are as follows: Paralysis -1, Dazzle -1, Confusion (Fuddle) -1, Sleep -2, Curse (Fizzle) 0, Stun 0, Sap -2, Leg Sweep (Stumble) 0, Decelerate -2.

Since confusion lasts for 2-3 turns and Grand Dragon shaves off 1 turn from the ailment (unlike sleep at 1-4 turns with -2 shaved off), it's guaranteed that he'll stay confused by the time you start the next turn.

79.152.41.200: The japanese wiki is incorrect in a variety of ways. Not just those that you've mentioned. But curiously enough, not on these resistance values, which is why I mentioned they can be easily tested. Mook is wrong about both Xenlong and Grand Dragon's values for status effects.

Xenlon is an additional post-game boss made for the Super Famicom version of DQ3 that has since appeared in every subsequent iteration of the title. Xenlon is a green eastern dragon of immense age and magical capability, granting wishes to those able to best him in battle. The divine dragon later appeared in the DQMSeries as one of the most difficult MFamiliess to recruit.

Appearances
DQ3
Xenlon's existence is alluded to three times in the game after Zoma is defeated: the first by the Aliahan Castle scientist who is researching the fable of a wish granting dragon, the hint-giving prisoner in the same castle, and by a Faerie standing next to the pillar of light in the Castle of the Dragon Queen.

He is found at the top of the castle in the sky, sleeping at the summit. He can be battled multiple times for a wish to be granted. Xenlon gets bored with long and tedious fights, which is why he enforces a turn limit for those who fight him. To have him grant the first wish, the dragon god must be defeated within 35 turns. He expresses annoyance at meeting the Party 3 again after the first wish has been granted, and reduces the turn limit to 25. After the second wish is granted, he reduces the turn limit again to 15. Despite this initial irritation, Xenlon will be positively thrilled if he can be bested under his strict turn limit and thank the Hero 3 for an exhilarating battle. Upon beating him, he transports the Party 3 to the outside of the Castle of the Dragon Queen, whether a wish is made or not.

Xenlon, for all intents and purposes, makes that blue-blooded so-and-so look like a chump. His powers matched only by the solitary Grand Dragon, Xenlon is the strongest entity in the game, being immune to every status debuff, including Drain Magic, and can deal devastating damage to the party by chewing on them, regardless of how resilient they are. An ideal way to approach this fight is with a full-frontal assault using Oomph and Falcon Blades. Specific action attacks will ignore defence, so don't even bother with Kabuff. Instead, keep Accelerate up at all times to make life easier for healers. Also, because Xenlon only has one spell and an equal chance to use any other action, Insulate is a better idea than Bounce.

On the bright side, Xenlon has no resistance to offensive spells, meaning that if the Hero 3 has enough MP, they can cast Kazap over and over again to whittle down his health. Magi and Sages should only cast Kafrizzle when healing and buffing have already been covered for the turn.

Consistent 15 turn KO
For a consistent 15-turn KO, Xenlon needs to be dealt an average of 487 damage per turn. Thankfully, this is quite achievable, as Kafrizzle is a guaranteed 46HKO, even if every hit rolls the bare minimum of 160 damage; with 45 hits of 160 damage, Xenlon lives with 100 HP. Toss in two Kaswooshes by using the Sword of Kings as a battle item, and you have enough damage to win no matter how bad the RNG gets. The party is thus composed of the Hero and 3 Kafrizzle casters; the Kafrizzle casters need a minimum of 300 MP for 15 Kafrizzles each, totaling 7200 guaranteed damage amongst them, though more likely, fewer Kafrizzles will be required since this assumes the bare minimum damage. The Hero should ditch the Auroral Armour for a Glombolero to bring Omniheal down to 32 MP per cast; in conjunction with the Hero spamming the Sage's Stone when nobody's HP is critical, they should be able to provide enough healing for the party as long as they do so efficiently. Everyone should have as much HP as possible, so as to make Omniheal readily accessible.
Trivia
*In the Game Boy Color version of III Monster Medals are saved automatically upon obtainment, thus the player can save wishes by defeating him and getting all of his sets of Medals, then resetting the game.
*Up until Dragon Quest Tact, Xenlon was referred to as female, or otherwise called "it." The III HD-2D remake is consistent with this by giving him a deep, masculine voice in line with Ortega's and Zoma's.
*Xenlon serves as an homage to Shenron from the Dragon Ball franchise, another eastern draconic god designed by Akira Toriyama. Not only do they look generally similar (the most notable differences being Shenron's glowing red eyes and Xenlon's purple accents), but they also grant wishes. In addition, the kanji for Shenron's name in Dragon Ball is 神龍 (meaning "god dragon"), which can be read as "shen long" in Mandarin Chinese (which, when said aloud by a Japanese person, becomes "シェンロン Shenron"), whereas it is read as "しんりゅう shinryū" in Japanese, the same as Xenlon's name in the Japanese version of Main Series.

*Allow the Hero to style their haircut.
*Open the path to the Temple of Trials that hangs in the sky north of Aliahan.
**This option is represented as a blank spot on the list of wishes, similar to the Jailor's Key in II.
*Get a copy of More Guns 'n' Buns.

Trivia
*Originally the requirement for battling the Gran Dragon was to have all 164 Gold Monster Medals (as well as all 164 of the Bronze and Silver Medals).
*Grand Dragon remained exclusive to the GBC port of Dragon Quest III for sixteen years until returning to the series in Joker 3 in 2016.
