Anderby01: /* Prime cuts */

The Monster Meadows is a side quest in the game Dragon Quest VII, focusing on building up a nature preserve of sorts for a wide variety of monster species to live in.

Synopsis
The Meadow is available when the player defeats Sulkk in Nottagen. When the town is brought to the present, the Monster Meadows appears next to Nottagen.

When the player enters the monster park, they see a house. Inside the house lives VII's Monty. The monster monitor's dream is to create a place where people can come from all over the world to view monsters in their natural habitat, and enlists the party to help him fulfill the plan.

Taming
In order to tame monsters, the player must have the beef jerky in their inventory. It is a quest item so as such, it cannot be thrown away. The player does not need to have the beef jerky in one of the player's inventory.

The monster who is defeated last will be the one that the player has a chance at taming, similar to recruitment in V. Each monster has a set taming value ranging from 1/8, like a Slime, to 1/256.

NOTE: If a monster is recruited but the plan for it's habitat has not been obtained, the monster will relocate to the Meadows immediately once the proper habitat is constructed. Once a monster is recruited it cannot be lost unless released by the player.
If the player recruits duplicates of a monster, they are sent into storage where the player can choose to release that monster into the wild again.

Having a party member who currently is a Monster Masher will help by using the Animal Magnetism skill. It increases the likelihood that a monster can be tamed based on the rank the character has in the vocation, and the character must be a monster masher for the skill to work. Using Monster Munchies will also increase the likelihood that a tamed monster will appear.

Recruitment bait
Meaty treat
The Meaty treat (originally Rib) is one of the first meat related items that can be found for monster recruitment. Five can be used in a single battle to guarantee recruitment. It can also be sold for 347 Gold Coins.

Prime cuts
The Prime cuts (originally Fillet) is a more effective meat to use when recruiting monsters. Three can be used in a single battle to guarantee recruitment. It can also be sold for 4,533 Gold Coins.

Locations
*Defeating the first bonus boss in under 20 turns.

Description
Shepherd's crook
Exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS port, the Shepherd's crook is a weapon. It can be equipped by Maribel and Sir Mervyn with the stat bonus of +27 Attack/+21 Style. It has the same effect as Animal Magnetism when used in battle.

Location
Won after the first defeat of Rebel lion in the DLC Tablet Purrrfect Day.
*Can also be used as an item during battle. (Description when selecting the Shepherd's crook in Nintendo 3DS Dragon Quest VII.)

Enclosure Plans
In the beginning, the monster park will have only three areas: a grassy plain, a storage area for extra monsters, and the guru's house. However, during the course of the game, the player will come across plans for additional enclosures (originally called BluePrint). These blueprints will allow the monster guru to build new areas for different monsters.

Once a new enclosure is given, the Party needs to spend the night at an Inn for it to be built.

There are nine plans in the game:

*Graveyard: Highendreigh Tower in the present, defeat the King Slime.
*Tower: Medal King in the present, collect 75 Mini Medals.
*Highlands: Mount Gora in the past; First cave -> East exit outside -> Up ladder -> Up ladder -> Up Western ladder -> Enter cave -> East exit outside for chest.
*Cavern: Cathedral of Blight in the present.

Description
*Blueprints showing a proposed place for monsters to call home. (Description when selecting an Enclosure Plan in Nintendo 3DS Dragon Quest VII.)

Rewards
After the player collects all monsters for the monster park, the monster guru will thank you. The main reward for completing the quest is having a rare chance to speak with such a wide variety of monsters, and to see how such creatures would behave in a real life biome. The other part of the reward is a Memento of Wiggles:
The Ultimate Key is a recurring magical item that can change it's appearance to fit any possible lock. It is necessary to advance the later stages of a game's story, usually by opening a jail door.

Types of Doors
The final key opens all the types of doors in Dragon Quest III. This includes thief doors (yellow, plain), magic doors (silver, ornate), and final doors (grey, prison-like). As the final key opens all 3 types of doors, it renders the other key types obsolete.

Appearances
Dragon Quest III
The Final Key is found at the Final Key Shrine, which requires a mini-quest to be completed in order to enter the shrine.
Location
Acquiring the final key is one of the first major tasks the player must accomplish after receiving the ship in Portoga. It requires visiting at least 3 separate locations.
Lanson
The village has an item shop which sells Fading Jennys. These herbs turn the Hero's party invisible for a short amount of time. At least one herb or the spell Fade is needed to proceed.
Edina
The castle is guarded so that outsiders may not enter by normal means. By using and invisibility herb, the hero's party can sneak by the sentries guarding the entrance. Inside, there is a boulder puzzle located on the second floor which must be solved. The player must push three boulders around water hazards into a straight line on the north wall. After successfully completing the puzzle, the hero is rewarded with the Bottomless pot.
North Central Sea and Final Key Shrine
In the north central sea (just north of where the two peninsula cross each other), there is a small grouping of shoals in a 'T' pattern. By guiding the ship adjacent to the south center shoal, the hero can use the Vase of Drought to raise the Final Key Shrine. Inside the shrine, the final key is located inside a chest.

Dragon Quest IV
The Ultimate Key is given by the Queen of Femiscyra after confronting the rosary thief. It is needed to obtain the Zenithian shield in the basement of Femicyra Castle.

Dragon Quest V
The Ultimate Key is obtained after defeating Bjørn the Behemoose. It is necessary to open the door in the Estuary Sanctuary leading to the portal to Nadiria.

Dragon Quest VI
The Ultimate Key is found at Sunken Ship, which requires a Lorelei's Harp to be found.

Dragon Quest VII
The Ultimate Key is found at Cathedral of Light.

Dragon Quest VIII
The Ultimate Key is given by Marta shortly before she is murdered by Rhapthorne. It is needed to find the pirate's map.

Dragon Quest IX
The Ultimate Key is obtained in the Gortress after defeating Goreham-Hogg. It is needed to free the captured celestrians.

Moonwort bulb (formerly Full Moon Herb and MoonHerb) is a recurring curative item in the Dragon Quest series. It is used to alleviate the paralysis status effect and, in VII and VIII, slumber.
Appearances
Dragon Quest III
Moonwort bulbs are very vital in their first appearance, as the paralysis status does not remedy itself during battle and if the whole party is stunned it counts as a wipe out.

Dragon Quest IV
The spell Tingle has been modified to affect all party members, diminishing the importance of the plant slightly. However, as only Meena will learn the spell most players keep a few in stock for when she is incapacitated or not in the party.

Dragon Quest V
Several monsters will learn Tingle, further reducing the importance of the plant. However, due to the random nature of taming it is still advised to have a bushel on hand for safety's sake. Furthermore, the accuracy of the enemy version of Burning Breath has risen significantly in the DS and mobile device versions of the game, thus necessitating cultivation for allies who aren't outright immune to being paralyzed.

Dragon Quest VI
Paralysis has been modified to wear off in battle after a number of turns, as with bedazzlement and sleep, making moonwort bulbs entirely unnecessary. Additionally, any character can learn Tingle after reaching rank 4 in the Priest vocation.

Dragon Quest VII
Moonwort bulbs have been cross-pollinated extensively to breed a more useful root, curing sleep as well as paralysis.

Dragon Quest VIII
The Moonwort bulb was yet further refined, now targeting everyone in the party. Additionally, three bulbs can also be mixed to make a Moon's mercy. They are also used to create a Rose-wort and Mystifying mixture.

Dragon Quest IX
The moonwort bulb has lost its anti-narcoleptic properties, but is featured in the same recipes as before (sans mystifying mixture) along with the Panacea.
Notes
The moonwort bulb's original translation "full moon herb" suggests that the plant only flourishes in moonlight, explaining the plant's selenite shape.
Bazoom and Blasto, also known as Limbo, refer to a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series. It tries to remove a single enemy in battle, and if successful then no experience points or gold will be counted for the expelled monster at the end of combat.

Appearances
Dragon Quest III
The spell is learned by Priests & Sages at Level 20.
If your characters are hit by the spell, they will wind up back at Patty's tavern, though The Hero is immune to the spell until Zoma is defeated in the remakes.

Dragon Quest VI
This spell is obtained by advancing to either Rank 6 of the Armamentalist vocation or rank 3 of the Sage vocation. Bazoom is typically inaccurate, using a 50%, 20%, 10%, and 0% success rate ratio instead of the typical 100%, 85%, 50%, 0% used by nearly all status inflicting spells and abilities in VI. This rate is shared with Poof.

Dragon Quest VII
Bazoom features the same success rate as in the previous game and is once again learned by reaching rank 6 of the Armamentalist and, in the 3DS version, rank 4 of the Hero vocation.

Dragon Quest VIII
"Blasto" is used by certain monsters to remove your monster arena team if you call them into battle. Monsters that have this spell will typically cast it the first turn they have after the monster team is called in.
The Ultimate Key (sometimes called Final or Last Key) is a recurring item that is needed to unlock the barred jail doors. It is usually necessary to advance the later stages of the story.

Lancel
The village has an item shop which sells Invisibility herbs. These herbs turn the Hero's party invisible for a short amount of time. At least one herb is needed to proceed.
Eginbear
The castle is guarded so that outsiders may not enter by normal means. By using and invisibility herb, the hero's party can sneak by the sentries guarding the entrance. Inside, there is a boulder puzzle located on the second floor which must be solved. The player must push three boulders around water hazards into a straight line on the north wall. After successfully completing the puzzle, the hero is rewarded with the Vase of Drought.
North Central Sea and Final Key Shrine
In the north central sea (just north of where the 2 continent "arms" cross each other), there is a small grouping of shoals in a 'T' pattern.

Dragon Quest VIII
