Antiyonder: /* Connections to Ashlynn */

The mysterious dragon is an unofficial name for the unidentified, Golden Dragon that appears in DQ6. The details of the creature are never outright explained, but fans have pieced together several clues to hint at the dragon's identity.

Appearances
DQ6
The dragon appears along with the Hero 6, Carver, Milly, and Mortamor on the cover art of the Super Famicom version of the game.

Within the title itself, the dragon appears twice at Murdaw's Keep to fly the cast over the untrekable crags and into the castle itself. In both instances it is called forth by Milly playing a melody on her ocarina.

DQ10
A Golden Dragon resembling the VI dragon appears as a flying mount in the game.

DQMBR
The dragon appears carrying each member of the DQ6 cast into battle at the start of their finishing moves and features directly as the focus of Milly's, assailing the enemy monster team with fiery breath.

DQStars
For simplification purposes, in Dragon Quest of the Stars, the mysterious dragon and the Zenith Dragon are one and the same in the Heavenly Golden Dragon event, and it takes the human form of the later in order to explain itself and the adventures of the heroes of Zenithia to the protagonists.

Identity
Connections to Ashlynn
The dragon is speculated by fans to be the missing body of Ashlynn, based on several facts in the game:
*Ashlynn is first discovered as a disembodied phantom like the Hero 6 and Carver, and must be given Dream Dew to manifest a solid, visible form, but her body is never recovered. While Ashlynn's people, the Sorcerians, mention that they used their power to separate body from soul to evade their own bodily destruction fifty years ago, Ashlynn's body is not specifically confirmed to have been destroyed.
*Ashlynn, as the Acolyte and descendant of Ashmerelda, is uniquely powerful among the Sorcerians and is noted to have been powerful enough to deflect the binding seal of the Dread Fiend (presumably Gracos) and escaped, though her amnesia is speculated to be a result of the clash. It is unknown if her power had any effect during the original destruction of Sorceria.
*One NPC even notes that, even among the Sorcerians who have the power to transform, Ashlynn's power and lineage are so strong that she might have the power to transform into anything, and specifically suggests a dragon.

*Ashlynn has a unique aversion to the Isle of Murdaw and refuses to disembark onto the island, claiming that doing so "doesn't feel right", despite having no such problem when encountering Murdaw's false manifestation in the Upper World. This aversion is never explained but does ensure Ashlynn never appears alongside the Golden Dragon in the game.
**A notable change in the Nintendo DS remake is that the dragon will never reappear at the cliffside camp after Murdaw's death and Ashlynn rejoining the Party 6, despite freely doing so in the original SFC version. The full reason for this change is unknown, but it likewise ensures Ashlynn and the dragon do not appear together.

The fan theory, accounting for these facts, is that the dragon is in fact the long-lost body of Ashlynn under the Morph spell, which cannot be learned by any of the Party 6 members in the game and is only known by certain Morphs and Sorcerian NPCs. How this situation came to be is unknown.

Also of note are pieces of information from sources external to the game, including the following:
*Yuji Horii, in an interview following the release of the Super Famicom game, mentioned that constraints on time and his own availability during development prevented the finishing of a storyline involving Ashlynn, the dragon, Rubiss (who made the ocarina that summons the dragon), and Milly (who owns the ocarina).
*Horii also stated during an appearance on the May 27th, 2014 airing of DQX-TV, a program based on the tenth game, that the hints indeed allude to Ashlynn and the dragon being one and the same. He further elaborates, explaining that the dragon, Rubiss, and the ocarina were to have been more fleshed out in the final product but this was set aside due to time constraints with the game's development and his simultaneous obligations with Chrono Trigger.
*The novel version of VI strongly implies Ashlynn and the dragon are one and the same by having the Hero 6 see the dragon's eyes when glimpsing of Ashlynn's reflection in Ra's Mirror.

Connections to the Zenith Dragon
Despite Dragon Quest VI having no official appearance of the Zenith Dragon, this dragon bears a striking resemblance to the gold-bodied, black-horned design of the Zenith Dragon from the original releases of IV and V. Also noteworthy is the fact that it retained its original appearance after the Zenith Dragon received the silver-bodied redesign in remakes and the Monsters S series.

Later games have strengthened the connection to the point of implying this dragon to be Dragon Quest VI's incarnation of the Zenith Dragon outright.
*The Dragon Quest Monster Battle Road features the mysterious dragon in Milly's finishing move, which is titled "Master Dragon".
*Both DQStars and Dragon Quest Scan Battlers have made use of the original orange-bodied, black-horned design for the Zenith Dragon, highlighting the original resemblance between them.

Thin Air is a recurring ability in the DQSeries that strikes all enemies with a ki-based shockwave.

The skill bears the Woosh element, making it ineffective against certain monster families.

Appearances
DQ2HD
Thin Air is learned by the Princess of Cannock at level 25. It costs 15 MP and deals 47~67 Wind damage to all enemies, with the souped-up version being Tooth and Claw.

DQ4
In the remakes, Thin Air is one of the special abilities that Psaro 9 can learn. He learns it at level 44 (or earlier depending on his Wisdom stat). Thin Air deals a fixed 85~104 damage range and isn't affected by his level. Also, Thin Air is not affected by Bounce even though it is listed as a one of the character's spells.

DQ6
Thin Air attack is learned after advancing to the second rank of the Paladin vocation. Damage is calculated as ((Level*2 +30)+/-10%) and caps at level 60 for a range of 135~165. Amos will also sometimes use the technique in his monster form after using Megamorphosis.

In the Nintendo DS and mobile phone versions of VI, Thin Air has been tweaked so that it caps at level 50 and damage is calculated as ((Level*2 +50)+/-10%).

It is used by the enemies Commander Brutus, jumping jackals, and Stormsgate Citadel.

DQ7
Thin Air is again learned by reaching rank 2 as a Paladin in both versions of the game, and is also re-learned at rank 1 of Champion, rank 4 as a Pirate, and rank 3 for Hero V in the remake. The latter version the damage formula has slightly changed as well, being (Level*2)+50. It can also be learned by advancing to rank 7 as a Dingbat.

On the enemy side, it can be used by cumulus vexs, drakulord, the Wind Spirit, and Orgodemir's second form on Disc 1.

DQ8
Thin Air is a Fisticuffs technique that Eight, Yangus, and Jessica Albert can learn. It requires 42 skill points by both the Eight and Yangus, and 68 skill points by Jessica. Damage is figured as (((Level*2 +30) *0.8)+/-10%), capping at level 60 for a range of 108~132. On the enemy side, it can be used by Jackal ripper, Dhoulmagus, Captain Crow, Fowlfighter, and the Lord of the Dragovians in his Vermillion Dragon form.

Dieablos are able to use Thin Air when they roll their eyes, inflicting either 10 or 60 damage to the entire Party 8 depending on how many eyes they land on. This version is dangerous as the amount of damage is fixed and cannot be reduced with Woosh resistance. The only way to reduce the damage is by being in a state of Super High Tension.
*In the version, Red and Morrie will learn Thin Air after investing 33 and 42 skill points to their Fisticuffs skill, respectively. The Memories Lane bosses Captain Crow in Memoriam, Dark Turkey in Memoriam, Marcello in Memoriam, and Dhoulmagus in Memoriam also use it.

DQ9
Though not available to player characters, Thin Air is a skill used by some enemies. When used by Legacy Bosses, the damage calculation is (53 + (3 * level)) * 0.9~1.1, giving it a base range of 126~154 and a cap of 315~385.

DQ10
Thin Air can be learned by Martial Artists by investing 180 skill points into their Fisticuffs skill. It costs 5 MP to use, has a charge time of 120 seconds, and inflicts Woosh-element damage proportional to the user's Attack stat to all enemies in a straight line.

DQ11
Thin Air returns to being an enemy-only skill that can be used by whirly girlies, inflicting around 20 Woosh-element damage to the entire Party 11. The version used by Malicious whirly girlies inflicts 100 damage to the entire Party 11.

DQM
Called Vacuum in this game, it is an upgraded form of WindBeast. WindBeast grows into Vacuum when the MFamilies reaches level 19 with 112 HP, 114 Attack and 132 Agility. It can be learned naturally by Durran, GiantMoth, LizardFly, NiteWhip, Pteranod, and WingSlime.

DQM2
The requirements to learn Vacuum are unchanged.

DQMCH
Stub

DQMJ2
Thin Air deals a combination of Woosh and Zam-element damage and inflicts around 60~115 damage to all enemies for 8 MP. It can be learned from:
*Bird Brain (100 points)
*Dual duellers (13 points)
*Missing lynx (30 points)
*Mortella (36 points)
*Sagittar (43 points)
*Stormsgate Citadel
Thin Air costs 12 MP and damages all enemies with (Level x 0.8) + 40 damage. It is learned through the Airhead, Blusterer, Dhoulmagus, Razerburn, Snow Drifter , and Storm Chaser talents.

DQR
Thin Air is a skill card within the game.

DQTact
Thin Air is known naturally by Metal dragon at level 1 and can be learned by Great sabrecat at level 26 and Wyrtoise at level 46. It costs 26 MP to use and inflicts moderate Woosh-type martial damage to all enemies in a radius of 1 around the user. Thin Air can also be taught to any unit using an ability scroll, which can be purchased from the Dragon Quest II event swap shop for 1,500 medals or received as a reward for completing the seventh stage of Cumulus vex's Battle Road.

Etymology
Thin Air's Japanese name makes reference to the fifth element in Japanese philosophy, known as 空 (Kū), which can be translated as "void", "sky", or "aether", referring to the emptiness of the sky. Kū often appears in Japanese media where martial arts combine with the supernatural and individuals are able to manipulate it with enough mental discipline. It appears in Final Fantasy, Pokémon, Street Fighter, and other video games.

DQM3

The Party of DQ6 start out with a Hero 6 waking up from what appears to be a dream.

As he begins a journey at behest of the Goddess, he meets a man and eventually woman that he met in his dream.

The Party as it grows discovers various worlds including the Upper World, Lower World and Dread Realm, as well as threats such as the Dread Fiend Murdaw.

Appearances
DQ6
Members
The occupation title is listed in parentheses after the character's name. [For Monster Companions, the occupation title is the species.]

*The Hero 6 (Village boy, or Prince of Somnia L) (（村の少年→レイドック王子）): The 17 year old prince of Somnia. His parents were bound into slumber by the Dread Fiend Murdaw, and he left with Carver and Milly to defeat him. However, Murdaw has separated the prince's soul from his body, imprisoning the former in the upper world. In both the Lower World and the Upper World, the Prince lives in the village of Weaver's Peak. In the Upper World he is the brother of Tania, while in the Lower World he merely lives with her to convalesce. His real sister died of a childhood disease years ago. He cannot leave the party. He will find it much easier than any other party member to gain the Hero V. He is called Botsu in the manga.
*Carver (Traveling fighter, or Carpenter's son) (ハッサン （旅の武闘家→大工の息子）): The son of a carpenter in Port Haven, he leaves his home to travel to Castle Somnia U. With the Hero 6 and Milly, he left to battle Murdaw, and his soul was flung into the Upper World, while his body was petrified and placed in Murdaw's castle. In the upper world, he is a traveling fighter, who volunteers to become a soldier at Somnia U. He soon joins forces with the Hero 6. He hates carpentry, but his father taught him the art anyway. While his MP and Agility are low, and his HP and Strength are high.
*Milly (Mileyou, Muriel, or Mireyu in other localizations) also known as the Mysterious Woman, or Long Lost Sister) (ミレーユ （謎の女性→テリーの姉さん）): She lives with her mentor, the witch Madame Luca Luminista, until she reunites with the party. When she was younger, she was sold to the Gandino crime family in Felonia, prompting her brother Terry to become as strong as possible to eventually save her. She uses her Gold Dragon Flute to infiltrate the castle of Murdaw. She appears to have already rejoined her body and soul by the time she joins the party in Port Haven. She has decent HP and Agility, and her MP is high, but she has a somewhat limited selection of armor, specifically Shields. She gains healing and support spells.
*Ashlynn (Runaway child, later Scion of Sorceria) (バーバラ （家出娘→カルベローナの子）): A magician from the city of Sorceria, and a descendant of the great witch Ashmeralda. The Dread Fiend Gracos attacked the real city and sealed the Upper World version of the city, where the souls of the inhabitants dwell. Like the other NPCs, she is "invisible" (can only be seen as a ghostly shadow, and only by the NPCs) in the Lower World. To rectify this condition, she has traveled to the glass tower in search of the Ra's Mirror. She cannot leave the party. She has the highest MP, but has below average HP. She also has high Style; although not initially as high as Milly's, it increases faster and so will eventually overtake her's. She gains fire-based attack spells, and eventually gains Magic Burst.
*Nevan (Child of Ghent) (チャモロ （ゲント族）): He inherited healing powers from his grandfather, the Elder of Ghent. He wears glasses, and has a serious nature. He does not appear in the opening screens, but will join in the fight against Murdaw later on; he is the only one who can steer the holy ship, the Providence. He gains recovery spells and has the highest MP of any male character, but his stats are otherwise average. He can use a wide array of equipment, including Slime armour. He levels at a slower rate than any of the other human party members.
*Terry (Wandering swordsman) (テリー （さすらいの剣士）) : "The Blue Spark" is the nickname of this swordsman. He is the brother of Milly, and a former resident of Felonia. Terry attempted to rescue Milly from slavery; but having failed he now seeks to become the strongest warrior in the world. He meets the party several times, but never when Milly can see him, or vice versa. Eventually he enters into the service of the Dread Fiend Dhuran, but Milly will convince him to join the party after he is defeated in battle. He is a Gladiator , and has already mastered the Warrior class; but he has no experience in the Martial Artist class in the Super Famicom version. His combat statistics are all high, but his magic-related stats are low.
*Amos (Village hero) (アモス （村の英雄）): He is a kind-hearted and powerful warrior who defends the town of Scrimsley from MFamiliess. When one of the MFamiliess bit him, he now he turns into a MFamilies himself at night. If the Hero 6 can obtain the Seed of Reason, Amos will gain power over his transformations, and will be able to transform at will. If he is informed that he turns into a MFamilies at night, he will leave the town and can no longer join the party. He does not appear during the ending montage, but is present for the victory celebration at castle Somnia L. His graphics are the same as those of a soldier in the Super Famicom version, and posses a unique sprite in the DS remake.
*Lizzie (Dragon) (ドランゴ): A Dragon-type MFamilies (a Hacksaurus) defeated by Terry. She is sufficiently impressed at being defeated by Terry that she will join the party if Terry is a member; but she does not appear in the ending animation. She joins fairly late and starts at a low level, but all of her stats besides Agility are very high, especially HP and Resilience. Fittingly, she joins the party as a member of the Dragon V vocation. Due to the fact that she is a MFamilies, she has a number of innate resistances to spells and status effects, with the most notable being a 100% resistance to both Woosh and Whack spells. Since she accuses Terry of smashing her eggs, one may assume that Lizzie is female; and she is identified as such in Dragon Quest Monsters. Her Japanese name is an anagram of "dragon" (ドラゴン).
*Goober (Rookie) (ルーキー): A Slime from Slimopolis. The owner of the museum eventually is sufficiently impressed with the party's skills at Slimopolis that he gives the party a "Rookie" Slime to train to a high level.
*Peggy Sue (Falchion) (ファルシオン):
start
Peggy Sue is the Upper World version of Pegasus, the legendary winged horse.
The Lucida shard is a recurring item in the DQSeries. When it was first introduced, it was an accessory that could either cause confusion to an enemy or remove confusion from a party member when used as a tool in battle. In later games, it has become a crafting material instead.

Appearances
DQ4 (remakes only)
The Lucida shard is an accessory with a Luck bonus of +5 that can be equipped by all characters. When used as a tool in battle, it can cure a single party member of the effects of confusion. It can only be purchased from the third stage of the Pioneer Town for 500 gold and sold for 375 gold. One can be found in a treasure chest in Diabolic Hall.

DQ6
The Lucida shard has a Style bonus of +10 and attempts to confuse a single enemy when used as a tool in battle. It can only be equipped by Milly and Ashlynn. One can be found in a drawer at Madame Luca's House, and it has a 1 chance of being dropped by a Fuddleguana. The shard cannot be purchased or sold anywhere.

DQ7
The Lucida shard once again has a Style bonus of +10 and can confuse a single enemy when used as a tool in battle. It can be equipped by Maribel and Aishe. It can be purchased for 500 gold at the item shops in Precipice Pass, as well as Al-Balad and El Ciclo in the past and it can be sold for 250 gold.
* In the Nintendo 3DS version, one shard can be found in a treasure chest on the world map near the Roamer Encampment in the present.

Alltrades Abbey is a temple where characters can change Vocations in DQ6.

Story
Unfortunately, the Alltrades Abbey is sealed by Murdaw, and cannot be accessed until he is eliminated.

There are two versions of the Abbey: one in the Lower World and another in the Upper World. The lower world's abbey is a smoldering ruin, having been destroyed by Murdaw's forces some time before the game's events, but the upper world's is still intact. In addition to career changes, Patty runs her party-planning service in the eastern side of the temple and allows the player to organize their group with as many humans or MFamiliess as they like.
Cameos
DQ11
Alltrades is the first location the Luminary can visit through the altar of reverie in the Echo Chamber. The holy ground is besieged by perverted old men who demand to be turned into bunny girls, refusing to leave and preventing the high priest from changing anyone else's vocation. At wit's end, the priest asks the Luminary and his Party 11 to find a book that instructs the reader on how to act like upstanding young ladies— something his predecessor had mentioned in passing. Incidentally, Patty will mention that she's never seen anyone leave the abbey as a bunny girl in all her years of working there, and doubts such a vocation exists in the first place.

The book, The Bunny Girl's Bible, is found in the library of L'Académie de Notre Maitre des Médailles, not on the shelves but as a bright orange glow on the ground that can't be missed. The book is exactly what the priest needs and, after mentioning to give it a thorough study later on, he gives the Luminary the golden pick-axe promised and sets about changing the crotchety old geezers into lagomorph ladies. However, as a thug within the abbey points out, they're still just creepy old men on the inside.
