|Class=Master of Monsters
|Race=Demon
|Age=Ageless
|}}
Psaro the Manslayer (originally Saro and Necrosaro in the NES localization, Dragon Warrior IV) is the central villain of Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen and a recurring monster in the series. He is a powerful demon with a passionate hatred for humanity.

During his rise to evil, Psaro attempted to kill the hero, sought the secret of evolution, and searched for the resting place of Estark, Ruler of Evil. Enraged by the death of Rosaly, Psaro became Psaro the Manslayer.

Appearance and Personality
Psaro at first appears fairly humanoid, though his red eyes, pointed ears, and vast powers would no sooner reveal him for what he really is. He has long silver hair, pale skin and wears a dark outfit with a single distinct shoulder pad, spiked and appearing to be made of bone, and a long fur cape. Upon using the Secret of Evolution he turns into a likeness of Estark and steadily morphs into a vicious horned demon with a second face on his torso as the player fights against him.

Psaro loathes humans, his Manslayer title likely derived from his stance on human presence. Despite this intense hatred, Psaro is remarkably kind to all other beings, notably monsters and especially the elf Rosaly. His romantic attachment to Rosaly is so strong that it drives him insane when he learns of her murder and can be freed from the Secret of Evolution's twisting power if she is revived and brought before him. In the Japanese remake of the DS and PSX version, he has a personality which is known to be tsundere if you use the party chat while he is in your party.

In Dragon Quest IV
localization
He is mentioned in every chapter, and his actions drive much of the game's plot.

Chapter 1
Psaro is behind the kidnapping of the children of Izmit, and Ragnar fights Psaro's Shadow as a final boss to this chapter.

Chapter 2
Psaro is the top contender in the Tournament of Endor, having defeated five combatants in succession, when Alena and her party arrives. But after Alena defeats five fighters as well, he is nowhere to be found and Alena is declared the champion of the tournament. It is presumed that he went after the Golden Bracelet which Alena gave up to save May, the fake princess, in Vrenor.

Chapter 3
When Torneko arrives in Endor, the tournament and Psaro are mentioned by several townspeople.

Chapter 4
After the sisters Meena and Maya defeat Balzack, the Marquis de Leon appears stating that Psaro will not be happy about it, and then easily defeats the sisters.

Chapter 5
This chapter starts with Psaro leading a group of monsters into the hero's Hometown and killing everyone except the hero. After this he desires to resurrect Estark. When Estark's Palace is discovered by the miners in Mammon Mine, Psaro leads a group of monsters from the Diabolic Hall to the mine. He is successful in resurrecting the ruler of evil, but the hero and his party are able to defeat Estark. Next, scenes of Psaro are seen in the dream sequence in Izmit.

After the Secret of Evolution
Finally after using the secret of evolution upon himself, Psaro takes up residence in Nadiria and becomes the final boss Psaro the Manslayer in Dragon Warrior IV; in Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen, Psaro the Manslayer is only the boss of chapter 5, as a sixth chapter was added to the remake where Aamon is the final boss.

Chapter 6 (Remake Only)
The remake contains an additional sixth chapter, in which the Secret of Evolution is undone by Rose's tears and Psaro becomes a companion of the protagonist (a full PC whose actions in battle can be controlled).

As an Ally
Psaro's initial state is of course quite powerful; he starts at level 35 and all his stats are high, not to mention he can learn powerful spells such as Lightning Storm and Magic Burst (most of which originally premiered in later Dragon Quest installments). He can furthermore equip cursed equipment without penalty and without having his stats zeroed. He can also equip the Pandemonic items given by Chow Mein and Foo Yung.

In Battle
If the player chooses to pursue the bonus content and make Psaro an ally they will quickly find that he is more than a jack-of-all-trades, being adept at healing, support, and especially offensive abilities. If the time is taken to level him up he will swiftly become the most powerful ally in the game.
Other Appearances
In Monster Battle Road II Legend
Psaro appears as a playable character, as well as the boss for Legend Quest IV in Chapter 7: The demon Lord.

In Monster Battle Road Victory
After the hero of Monster Battle Road Victory wins over his/her rival Ryuuta, Psaro escapes from the game world to the real world to challenge the hero. After clearing the game, he will be at the harbor waiting for the hero to challenge him again.

Trivia
*There are two Psaros in the remake; the other one is a gender-confused naked man.
**In the PSX version, if you talk to the Psaro in your party, he will say "W-Why are you trying to talk to me?!"
*Psaro's appearance closely resembles Sephiroth from another popular Square Enix game series called Final Fantasy and have many things in common; such as having different forms as enemies and both being villains with tragedies, because of their similarities, there are some jokes in Japan which involves the two, such as Psaro and Sephiroth are actually secret twins, or sometimes calling either one of them as "Psaroth".
*Psaro's outfit is roughly based off the baroque prince's outfit (Hence the puffed sleeves and pants), and implies that he may be a prince or from royalty. Also, in Dragon Quest IX's Japanese version of the bestiary, it mentions him as a prince.
*In Monster Battle Road Victory, his first person in Japanese is changed from "私" (Watashi is a polite saying as a first person in Japanese) to "俺" (Ore, a common first person used by boys, usually it is considered as impolite.). Many fans disliked his new first person.
*In Monster Battle Road manga and Victory, there is a genderbent version of Psaro named Queen Psaro (クイーンピサロ）. Unlike Psaro, who is ruthless and cold, she has a person similar to Deborah. If you beat her, you can get a puff puff from her.
**Apparently it is unknown if she has any relation to Psaro in any way.
Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road is a Japanese arcade game based on Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King released in 2007, only in Japan. Players battle monsters and can win real-life cards with monster data imprinted on them.

As of November 7, 2008, Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road has contributed between 1.6 and 1.7 billion ¥ in earnings for Square Enix.

The sequel, Monster Battle Road II also got positive reviews, and ended circulation on September 30th, 2010.

In Japan, there is a Monster Battle Road game for the Wii for those who wanted to continue playing.

Gameplay
The game is based around battles with monsters from the Dragon Quest games. The battles take place in a coliseum and the monsters either can come from the game itself or cards the player can insert into the machine itself. The combat itself is very simple and only uses a two-button system.

The machine gives the player a free card at the beginning of a match. These cards can then be used in battle and if the player has one of the rarer cards, a special attack becomes available to be used in battle.
Psaro the Manslayer (Originally Saro;) is the central villain of Dragon Quest IV and a recurring monster in the series. He is a powerful demon with a passionate hatred for humanity.

Story
As an Ally
The remake contains an additional sixth chapter, in which the Secret of Evolution is undone by Rosaly's tears and Psaro becomes a companion of the protagonist (a full PC whose actions in battle can be controlled). His initial state is of course quite powerful; he starts at level 35 and all his stats are high, not to mention he can learn powerful spells such as Lightning Storm and Magic Burst (most of which originally premiered in later Dragon Quest installments).

In Monster Battle Road
In Monster Battle Road II Legend
Psaro appears as a playable character, as well as the boss for Legend Quest IV in Chapter 7: The demon Lord.

In Monster Battle Road Victory
After the hero of Monster Battle Road Victory wins over his/her rival Ryuuta, Psaro escapes from the game world to the real world to challenge the hero. After clearing the game, he will be at the harbor waiting for the hero to challenge him again.

Trivia
*There are two Psaros in the remake; the other one is a gender-confused naked man.
Erdrick (ロト Roto or Loto), also known as Loto or Roto, is a legendary hero from the Dragon Quest series, and specifically the Hero of Dragon Quest III. The first three Dragon Quest games are called the "Erdrick Trilogy", as each are connected by the Legend of Erdrick. Known in these games as the hero who freed Alefgard from darkness, the name Erdrick was first mentioned in the English localization, Dragon Warrior where the player is referred to as Erdrick's descendent. Erdrick’s legend was completed with the 1991 release of Dragon Warrior III.
The Hero
Background
In Dragon Warrior III, the hero, who may be either male or female, departs from their home, Aliahan, on their sixteenth birthday in order to follow in the footsteps of the brave warrior and the hero's father, Ortega, to defeat the archfiend Baramos. After defeating Baramos, the hero returns victorious to Aliahan only to be confronted by a new nemesis, Zoma. Taking up a new quest to defeat Zoma, the hero travels through the Great Pit of Giaga to Alefgard, which is sealed in darkness.

Appearance
In the original Japanese version of the game the hero has black hair and wears a gold headband, a dark green or blue tunic, and a black, green, or blue cape. In later remakes of Dragon Quest III, the hero has either black or dark brown hair and wears a gold or silver headband, a blue tunic, brown leather boots and gloves, and either a red or purple cape.
|}

The Name
In Dragon Warrior, Erdrick was the ancestor of the hero. The hero follows in the footsteps of Erdrick to ultimately reach Charlock Castle and confront the Dragonlord.

In Dragon Warrior II, the heroes are descendants of Erdrick, and also of the hero from Dragon Warrior.

In Dragon Warrior III, the origins of the hero Erdrick are revealed; therefore, the chronological order of the first three games is III, I, II.

Originally known as Erdrick to many North Americans, the hero is also known by two other names: Roto and Loto. In the original Japanese version games (i.e. Dragon Quest), Erdrick is known exclusively by the name Roto, which is also used by some import gamers. Another romanization of the name is Loto, which was used in place of Erdrick when Enix America, Inc. re-released Dragon Warrior I, II, and III on the Game Boy Color. This was most likely used because the Japanese language does not distinguish between R and L.

When Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies was released in North America and Europe, the name Erdrick was once again used to refer to the legendary hero of Dragon Quest III, effectively returning to the original English localization from the NES era.

In the manga series, The Emblem of Roto, the hero's real name is Arel.

Title or Name?
At the end of Dragon Warrior III, the King of Alefgard bestows upon the hero The Order of Erdrick, the country’s highest honor reserved only for true heroes. This implies Erdrick is a title rather than the hero's actual name.

Attempting to name the hero "Erdrick" in Dragon Warrior III for the NES will generate a message requesting the player to enter their real name; however, if a space is added at the end, the warning message will not be displayed and the game may be played with the hero being named "Erdrick ".

Items Bearing the Name Erdrick
In the Nintendo Entertainment System versions of Dragon Warrior, several items that once belonged to the hero have Erdrick in their names (which are named after Loto in the Game Boy remakes).

Erdrick’s Sword
This is the most powerful sword in Dragon Warrior and Dragon Warrior III. Other names for this sword include Sword of Erdrick (Dragon Warrior II) and Sword of Kings (Dragon Warrior III).

Erdrick’s Armor
The most powerful armor in Dragon Warrior, which protects against the hit point damage from poison swamps and barriers. It is also known as Armor of Erdrick in Dragon Warrior II and as Armor of Radiance in Dragon Warrior III.

The Shield of Erdrick
The shield used by Erdrick when confronting Zoma. This is the name found in Dragon Warrior II. It is called the Shield of Heroes in Dragon Warrior III, and it does not exist in Dragon Warrior.

The Helmet of Erdrick
The helmet worn by Erdrick when confronting Zoma. This item exists only in Dragon Warrior II, and it is not a specific armor from Dragon Warrior III. (It may be assumed to be Ortega's Helm in the remake of Dragon Warrior III).

Erdrick’s Token
An object which proves the hero's lineage in Dragon Warrior, which is found in a swamp south of Cantlin (or Mercado in the Game Boy remake).

Erdrick's Tablet
A message written in stone by Erdrick in Dragon Warrior III and left for the hero in Dragon Warrior. It gives instructions on what items are needed to reach the Isle of Dragons, which is the location of Charlock Castle. The tablet is found in a cave called Erdrick's Cave.

Other References to Erdrick
* In Dragon Quest IX the set of legendary armaments are referred to as Erdrick's, and not Loto's, reversing the localization change from the Game Boy Color remake of Dragon Warrior III.
* In the original Final Fantasy, a role playing game produced by Square, there is a grave for Erdrick (in the remakes, and the original Japanese version of Final Fantasy, the name is Link).
* Erdrick's sword is wielded by a mark in Final Fantasy XII. It is referred to as the "Wyrmhero Blade" (In the Japanese version, it's called the Tolo Sword).
|Image=
|Class=Master of Monsters
|Race=Demon
|Age=Ageless
|}}
Psaro the Manslayer (Originally Saro;) is the central villain of Dragon Quest IV and a recurring monster in the series. He is a powerful demon with a passionate hatred for humanity.

Story

Disruptive Wave (originally DeMagic) is a recurring skill in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest III as a monster-exclusive attack, it nullifies all stat changes, such as those caused by buffs (Kabuff, Oomph) and debuffs (Kasap, Deceleratle).

It is typically known by major bosses and is almost always used by the final bosses, making the use of stat changing moves futile in such battles if one's luck is unrelentingly bad.
Appearances
Dragon Quest III
Dragon Quest IV
Disruptive Wave is a technique used by enemies such as Estark, Psaro the Manslayer, and Aamon. However, the hero can unleash this by using the Zenithian sword as a tool in battle.

In the remakes, Disruptive Wave is one of the special abilities that Psaro can learn.
Used by most of the later story bosses, starting with Dhoulmagus.

Dragon Quest IX
This ability is learned with 42 skill points allocated into Enlightenment skill. It costs 10MP to cast.

It is worth noting that Disruptive Wave acts slightly different in this installment as it now only affects the opposition. This makes debuffs viable against many bosses since they can't use the ability to clear them away. This isn't used as heavily by the story bosses (only King Godwyn and Corvus uses it). However, several of the grotto bosses and all the legacy bosses will use this ability.

The Hero in Dragon Quest IV is an 18-year-old man or woman prophesied to defeat Psaro and save the world from the rising tide of Demons. As the only person able to wear the Zenithia Equipment, he or she is the only person in the world capable of doing this. To stop this from happening, Psaro and his minions attempt to eliminate the Hero before he or she can take up arms, but, fortunately, fail.

Uncommon in the Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest IV allows the player to choose their character's gender as well as their name (similar to Dragon Quest III and Dragon Quest IX). The Hero's name is up to the player, a Dragon Quest staple, but the default names are Solo for the male and Sofia for the female.

Story
On one starry night, an angel fell from the sky castle of Zenithia. She subsequently fell in love with a human woodcutter and, together, they produced a half-human, half-Zenithian child - the Hero. Shortly after the child's birth, the angel returned to Zenithia and the woodcutter went to live in solitude. The Hero was then brought up by two loving foster parents in a small village near the woodcutter's hut, to be protected by the denizens of the settlement until he came of age. He or she grows up alongside his or her childhood friend, Eliza and proceeds to train with a master swordsman regularly. However, the Hero's peaceful existence wasn't to last; eventually, Psaro's minions discovered the secretive village and assaulted it with the objective of assassinating the eighteen-year-old. They slaughtered all the villagers who stood in their way, including Eliza, who died whilst masquerading as the Hero with her transformation ability. Thinking that they had defeated the real Hero, the minions of Psaro left the ruins of the village. The Hero, after witnessing the savage ruins of his or her home, leaves to embrace his or her destiny as a hero.

During his travels, the Hero encounters the seven other 'Chosen' and they form a group to stop Psaro's evil plan to make use of the Secret of Evolution to destroy the world. The Hero and his companions go on a quest to retrieve all the pieces of the Zenithia equipment which they then use to gain access to Zenithia Castle.

In Battle
The Hero has extremely high stats, especially in the HP and Strength areas. The Hero is the only character capable of using lightning spells such as Zap.

BoAexecute: /* Trivia */

:This article is about the enemy Psaro, for the character see Psaro (Character)

Psaro the Manslayer (Necrosaro, Pizzaro) is the central villain of Dragon Quest IV and a recurring monster in the series. He is a powerful demon with a passionate hatred for humanity

Story
Psaro hates and is in turn reviled by humans, but revered by demons and the inhabitants of Rosehill. When Rose, his lover, was attacked by humans for the ruby tears she sheds as an elf, he protected her by concealing her in a small fortress he built far away from human settlements. The town of Rosehill grew up around it as others looking for shelter from humans relocated there. Psaro paid frequent visits to Rosehill in order to see Rose; he told her of his plans to destroy humanity to free the world for demons, and continued on with righteousness in spite of her pleas to stop and try for coexistence.

Towards the end of the game, Aamon has Rose murdered, causing Psaro to go insane. He loses what little inhibition Rose had given him and uses the Secret of Evolution to transform into a monster, destroying his personality as an unavoidable side-effect. The only thing he remembers is his desire to destroy humanity. However, before he can unleash his worst, the Hero confronts and defeats him, saving the world.

Abilities
Psaro the Manslayer is fought at the very end of the original game. He is notably one of the very first, if not the first, transforming final bosses in video game history, setting a longstanding trend. This battle is a test of endurance more than anything, as Psaro's only tricks are ones used by other bosses earlier on, so the player should already be familiar with the methods of dealing with them. He has seven different forms, effectively undergoing a metamorphosis:

First form
In this phase, Psaro relies on direct melee attacks.

Second form
{{Enemy

This phase occurs when he loses right arm. With only one hand, he can only attack once per round.

At this point he discards his head.....and his abdomen turns green and morphs into a face. He starts using Disruptive Wave and breath attacks at this point.

Fifth form

Second form
This phase occurs when he loses right arm. With only one hand, he can only attack once per round.

Third form
This phase occurs when he loses his other arm. Without his weapon hands, Psaro switches to spellcasting.

Fourth form
At this point he discards his head.....and his abdomen turns green and morphs into a face. He starts using Disruptive Wave and breath attacks at this point.

Fifth form
{{Enemy

He grows new arms....and proceeds to start hitting you with them.

Sixth form
{{Enemy

Final form

Fifth form
He grows new arms....and proceeds to start hitting you with them.

Sixth form
He grows new legs, but uses same strategy.

Final form
In his ultimate form, Psaro grows a new head with three eyes, and immediately casts Bounce. The music changes to "Incarnation of Evil."

Appearances
