The Dragonlord's great-great-grandson resides in Charlock Castle and stands in the same location where his great-great-grandfather stood in DQ. However, rather than fighting the trio, he instead offers critical advice about defeating Hargon. In particular, he describes that the 5 Sigils must be gathered from around the world of Torland, starting with the one in the island Lighthouse south of where Cantlin once stood.

Trivia
*While his exact familial relationship to the Dragonlord has changed several times in English releases, he has consistently been labeled as Dragonlord's great-grandchild in Japanese.
*In the Japanese versions of Dragon Quest 2, the nickname he gives the Hero is based on the first two to four characters of his name followed by the honorific "chan", while the name he gives himself is "Ryu-chan."
| Family=
|Voice Actor = Kengo Kawanishi (male)<br> Akane Fujita (female)
|}}
The Builder is the protagonist of Dragon Quest Builders 2. After being swept away when a ship controlled by the Children of Hargon sinks, the Builder awakens on the Isle of Awakening and is told by the Hairy Hermit to go out into the world, meet and recruit new people to help rebuild the Island, and ward off the teachings of Hargon and His disciples.

The Builder's default names are Bildrick (ビルド Birudo) for the male hero and Creatrix (クリエ Kurie) for the female hero.

Appearance and Personality
The male Builder wears a long-sleeved undershirt with a black vest on top. He also wears blue pants, dull orange boots and gloves and a red neckerchief.
The female Builder wears a red and white zig-zag pattern dress, a yellow neckerchief, dull orange boots and gloves, red bows on her pigtails and white earrings.

Both versions of the Builder also sport a bag on their backs that hold a Builderpedia, a large book of recipes and blueprints that The Builder will consistently write in as the game progresses. The Builder is never willingly seen without their backpack, which contains their Builderpedia. The Builder is very possessive of their book, and does not allow others to touch or look through it. The book has been their possession since childhood and contains countless drawings and writings about wanting to build things for others.

Similar to the Builders from the previous games, both versions are silent outside of the occasional grunts and cheers. However, contrasting their blank-faced forerunners, multiple characters comment on the Builder's unrelenting smile and strong commitment to building.

The Builder is of a kind and generous personality, and maintains a cheerful disposition throughout most of the game. As noted by many people, the Builder appears to have little aversion to monsters and will help monsters and humans alike. While the Builder becomes friendly with virtually everyone they meet, the bond forged with Malroth ends up being particularly strong.

Story
The Builder wakes up captive in a ship controlled by the Children of Hargon, along with a few other prisoners such as Lulu. The monsters on board then strike a deal with the Builder: if they repair and decorate the ship then they'll be spared, at least for now. After repairing the ship performing a few odd jobs, the ship hits a massive rock, tearing apart bits of the ship and causing water to rush in. The attempts to repair the ship are futile, and the Builder is swept away while the ship sinks to the bottom of the ocean.

The Builder then washes up on the Isle of Awakening, and meets Malroth, an amnesiac with a passion of destroying, and Lulu, the only survivor of the sinking ship besides the Builder. After the three spend a day together, they climb to the top of the island's central mountain and meet the Hairy Hermit, who then informs them of the island's past and how to restore the island back to its glory.

Abilities
Unlike the first game, the Builder is not the only person with the power of creation. Thus, technically speaking, the Builder has no particularly unique abilities, and is even noted to be somewhat feeble in terms of offensive abilities by Malroth. The Builder does, however, stand out by their sheer, creativity, determination, and willpower to help others despite opposition from many sides.

Origins
Little is known of the Builder's past, though they are mentioned to be a native of Cantlin a few times throughout the game.

Trivia
*Though never stated in the game, the official Japanese website for Dragon Quest Builders 2 suggests that they are the descendent of the Builder from Dragon Quest Builders.
|}}
The Builder is the mostly-silent protagonist of the eponymous game, sent forth by the Goddess Rubiss to rejuvenate the world after the hero of Alefguard betrayed the faith the people placed in him and doomed the kingdom to darkness.

The Builder's default name in the demo of Dragon Quest Builders is Bildrick, regardless of the gender of the player. In the Japanese version, the male Builder is given the name of Build (ビルド Birudo), and the female Builder is given the name Crea (クリエ Kurie).

Appearance and Personality
The male builder wears a black long-sleeved shirt with white pants, covered by a blue tunic and long cap to cover his blonde locks. His accessories are a pair of yellow goggles, a red scarf, along with a materials bag and food pouch.

The fairer of the two wears the opposite color scheme, having black pants, a white shirt, and a red tunic with blue scarf. The yellow goggles and hair are the same, as is the exploration gear and the large belt. Regardless of sex, the Builder is described as "dopey" by a variety of NPCs, much to their chagrin.

Both versions of the character follow the series tradition of being silent, though voice actors are employed for yelps, grunts, battle cries, and so forth when taking damage or fighting monsters. Furthermore, a sassy personality is strongly implied for both as the protagonist will talk back to several characters over the course of the adventure, even the Goddess Herself. No dialogue is displayed when this happens, and the implication is carried through by the reactions of the other conversation participants.

Story
The builder awakens at the words of Rubiss asking if the player can hear Her voice. She explains the fate that has befallen Her world, and that the builder is the only person alive with the ability to forge items from raw materials, as all others have fallen prey to the curse of the Dragonlord that has clouded creative clarity the world over.

The builder begins the tutorial of the game entombed in an unmarked grave, where in Rubiss explains the process of crafting tools and what will be required of the player to save the remaining lives left in Alefguard (while being interrupted frequently). The Goddess ends the tutorial by stating that they are not a Hero, and thus the builder's responsibility lies strictly with rebuilding the towns of Alefguard and giving safe haven to the people. The Goddess is then flabbergasted to hear Her chosen one "doesn't get it" and "just wants to build things".

Abilities
The builder is the only person alive who is able to combine, rearrange and construct objects from materials and the only one who can reduce said objects back to their components by destroying them. This being said, the builder is not totally immune to the hex--they will be stripped of all knowledge gained during a chapter when beginning a new one, and must relearn every recipe again.

Due to the focus of the game being more sandbox-orientated than previous titles, the builder has far fewer stats than the typical protagonist. Only HP, attack, and defence are shown in-game, with the former improving through leveling up the quality of a given chapter's town and through Seeds of life, with the latter two being completely dependent on weapons and armour.

Origins
start
The Builder's history prior to the events of the game are never fully explained, only that they died sometime ago by an unknown cause and were brought back to life by Rubiss for the express task of rebuilding Alefguard. The reasons for Rubiss's choice to revive them in particular is due to the fact that the Builder, like the the fallen Hero, is also a descendant of Erdrick--something she does not reveal to them until they have completed their task. However, unlike their ancestor, they were not blessed with strength but with the power of creation, an art lost in this timeline.end

Origins
Due to the open-ended nature of the game, the Builder's history is never fully explained. The only concrete details of their life are that they were granted life by Rubiss for the express task of rebuilding Alefguard, and that the concepts of time and hunger were alien to them until encountering normal humans.

Fan theories have emerged in the wake of the game's release in an effort to explain the origins of the protagonist, with some gaining more traction among the fan community than others. The first is the most simple, being that the Builder is a revived guardsman/guardswoman of Alefguard who fell in the Dragonlord's first attack, and was chosen by the Goddess due to their lover for masonry and tinkering.

The second most commonly accepted idea is that the Builder is the "bad ending" incarnation of the Prince of Middenhall. What this means is that the soul who would become the Prince has materialized to right the wrongs of their "ancestor", the original hero. The support for this theory hinges on the game taking place approximately one hundred years after Dragon Quest, which is when DQII is set in the normal timeline and the fact that the builder can equip the Erdrick Equipment. Secondly, the Builder's outfit is remarkably similar to that of the Prince's regardless of sex--both wear large, distinct goggles that stand out in the medieval setting, wear thigh-length tunics over their clothes, fastened with belts that have rounded emblems at the center. Another point of note is that the Builder is incapable of casting spells: this trait is only shared with the Prince of Middenhall among all Dragon Quest's lead protagonists.

An early theory that was debunked is the idea of the Builder being the reincarnation of the first game's hero, forced to make amends for their misdeeds. This supposition was squashed when the same hero appears as a boss battle in chapter 5.
