The sparring suit has a defense bonus of +23, and can only be worn by [[Martial Artist|Fighters]] and [[Sage]]s. It can be purchased in [[Khoryv]], [[Mur]], and [[Persistence]] for 800 [[gold]] coins and sold for 600. In the NES version, one set can be found in [[Aliahan]] in a chest that requires the [[magic key]] to access. It also happens to be the strongest piece of armor that male Martial Artists can equip in the NES version of the game.

In the Japanese version of the game, the [[strongsam]] and the sparring suit are one and the same, but the design has changed and it is now a piece of armor exclusive for female characters. This design would reappear in both X and XI, as well. The male counterpart is the [[Tussler's top]].
