The Bird of terrordise is a recurring MFamilies in the DQSeries. Introduced in Dragon Quest VII, it is a fiery red variant of the Prism peacock.

Characteristics
Characteristics
Like their Prism peacock birdy brethren, birds of terrordise sport powerfully built humanoid bodies and a pair of golden curved horns atop their heads, along with their indicated avian qualities, but are of a raging red-hot colouring as opposed to the prism peacocks' motley plumage. The infernal avians are among the most powerful monsters around in each of their appearances, boasting high stats and the most lethal of the fire breath attacks. The birds can also send adventurers into a state of utter chaos with Fuddle spells. Their scarlet plumage grants them a high amount of protection against fire spells and techniques. They typically make their habitats in volcanic regions, such as the Hellfire Hollow of Orgodemir's Cathedral of Blight and high-level fire grottoes in IX.

Defeating birds of terrordise is the objective for Quest #167: Who's a Pretty Boy? in acquire a jewelry box and terrordise tail feather. They can only be encountered in high-level volcano grottoes.

DQ10
Reappearing from Version 4.3 onward, they are one of the 3 non-boss MFamiliess in the game to use Purgatory Pyre.

AHB
Bird of terrordise appeared as a boss that could be challenged in the Hall of Perdition starting on April 26th, 2022 in the Feather and Flames battle. Its special move is Trial by Fire, a powerful fire breath which it unleashes after a 10-second countdown unless it is interrupted or defeated first. A more powerful Breakbeast version was eventually added to the Hall of Perdition on October 26th, 2022.

Trivia
Birds of terrordise (then HellHawk) make their first appearance, though it is not until around the end that they appear. They are incredibly powerful, boasting high stats and the most lethal of the fire breath attacks. The area accessible by use of the fire crest inside Orgodemir's castle houses birds of terrordise, and they are arguably one of the most powerful monsters faced in that dungeon.
* The bird of terrordise's name is a play on the bird-of-paradise, a member of the Paradisaeidae, found in Papua New Guinea and eastern Indonesia.

In Other Languages
They can be found in the Dark Palace and Zion Cave.
