The '''[[Prestidigitator]]''' is a recurring {{MFamilies}} in the {{DQSeries}} that originally appeared in {{DQ3}}. It is a [[Humanoid family|humanoid]] monster cloaked from head to toe in a grey robes.

 

They fulfill the same role as the [[Prestidigitator (Dragon Quest)|enemy of the same name]] from the original {{DQ}}, being the first enemy to be encountered that can cast spells, but they have a different design. After many years, they made a reappearance in {{DQ11}}.

Prestidigiators have the appearance of men wearing dark grey robes with rope belts cinched around their waists. Their eyes seem to be glowing from within their robes and they have their hands outstretched, ready to cast a spell on any unfortunate adventurer. According to the Japanese Official Guide Book for the {{Famicom}} version of {{III}}, these magicians sold their souls and swore allegiance to [[Baramos]], turning them into monsters. Their description in {{XI}} also makes reference to the fact that they were formerly men.

==Etymology==

Prestidigitation is more popularly known as [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleight_of_hand sleight of hand], techniques involving quick-hand movement to perform magic tricks with objects such as cards and coins. A prestidigitator is a practitioner of these techniques, the name suiting the monster given its magical talents and emphasized, upraised hands.
