The '''Slime Knight''' is a recurring {{MFamilies}} in the {{DQSeries}} that was introduced in {{Dragon Quest V}}. It is a sword-wielding knight riding atop a large green slime.

'''Slime knights''' are dwarfed humanoids that sit astride green {{Slime}}s, a variety yet to be faced alone. The small knights are armed with swords and shields, their shields bearing the likeness of a slime. When performing a [[Critical Hit]], the knight will pummel foes with their slippery steeds.

The monster duo can be far more formidable than one might initially believe, Slime knights being capable of performing strong attacks and even have a limited knowledge of healing magic. They can also be very enduring, boasting decent defenses and surprisingly pervasive elemental resilience. According to the Monster Library entry in {{Joker}}, it is actually the [[Slime]] that is giving the orders for the duo. In more recent games such as {{X}} and {{XI}} which show monsters on the field, the [[Slime]] and the knight have been seen walking next to each other. It is unknown if the [[Lime slime]] is related to the Slime knight.

Slime knights appeared from the beginning of the game. As with their previous appearance, they are able to cast [[Heal]] and can perform a [[Helm Splitter]], as well as gaining the ability to call for aid from [[Healslime]]s in battle. Startin with Version 1.2 of the game, it gained a [[Rarefied monster|rarefied]] version in the form of the [[Snooty slime knight]].

In Version 2.0, slime knights were one of the original ten monsters that could be [[Monster_recruitment#Dragon_Quest_X|tamed]] by [[Monster Master]]s. Starting with Version 5.2, vicious slime knights can be faced in the Netherworld, now having the ability to cast [[Moreheal]] and call for backup from [[Cureslime]]s.

Starting from the ''Definitive Edition'', if a Slime knight is sparkling, its slime [[Horse and monster riding|mount]] can be ridden after defeating it in battle, though compared to most ride-able monsters where the original rider disappears after being defeated in battle, the rider of the Slime knight does not disappear. When ridden, the [[Hero (Dragon Quest XI)|Luminary]] uses the Slime knight's sword while hopping along the ground. The Luminary can use the sword to defeat some monsters along the path. The original rider can be also seen holding onto its slime steed while the Luminary moves about.

The Slime knight is actually a toy available to the player in [[Mt. Krakatroda]], [[Callmigh Bluff]], and the [[Flying Clawtress]] and in tank battles if it is used as ammo. The knight when being carried around can swing its sword to attack, providing a faster and more consistent method of combat than using [[Elasto Blast]]s or simply tossing whatever is being carried around. Its potency is toned down in tank battles where it will eventually fall asleep after a sword swing and can only be struck a few times before fading away, making it important to catch one without having to knock it into the air. The Slime knight can also be carried around by other characters and placed on top of objects in tank battles where it will viciously slash at anything that gets close to it, including the player.
