			The Craggy Cave uses the same layout as seen in ''Dragon Quest III HD'' and is now a mandatory visit. The {{Hero 1}} is first informed of the cave after passing through the [[Roadside Inn]] and seeing the aftermath of [[Robbin' 'Ood's Descendant]] taking his [[thief's key]] back from the [[Swindler]]. Upon entering the Craggy Cave the Hero will witness musclebound bandit attempting to charge into the lower floors to rescue a lost [[Robbin' 'Oodlum\|'Oodlum]], only to be held back by the remaining two lackeys. When the pillager sees the Hero he demands he state his business, and the game's first boss fight begins. The thief begs for his life once the battle is over, in keeping with the family tradition, and learns of the Hero being descended from the legendary [[Erdrick]]. Robbin''Ood claims that Erdrick was a pupil of his own ancestor and states he will hand over the thief's key if the Hero can retrieve his missing peon from the lower floors of the Craggy Cave. Before the Hero sets off, one of the 'Oodlums warns him that are [[faeries]] lurking in the cave and use magic to make navigating it a pain.

			The missing 'Oodlum is found cowering before a [[sorcerer]] looking to make a meal of him, but the monster makes for a paltry second boss fight and is quickly dispatched. The sorcerer attempts to discourage the Hero by saying the [[Dragonlord]]'s forces have [[Princess Gwaelin]] and he will never reach [[Dragonlord's Castle\|the castle]] without her guidance, but succumbs to its wounds. The 'Oodlum jumps for joy at being saved and explains that he traipsed into the basement of the cave in the hopes of finding some treasure that could brighten his boss' mood after the thief's key was stolen from him by the Swindler earlier, and chastises himself for causing the brute to worry on his behalf. The henchman runs off to rejoin the group, but the Hero hears a noise from deeper in the cave and investigates.

			In a dead end passage the hero finds two faeries, the [[Arm-Twister]] and the [[Day-Dreamer]]. The latter panics at the sight of him and frets that he'll capture them and sell them to a circus, but the Arm-Twister points out that he killed the sorcerer that was hunting them until it became distracted by the 'Oodlum, and asks the young man his name. Upon being informed of his identity and mission to save the world, the Arm-Twister decides to fill him in on some crucial information concerning the Goddess [[Rubiss]]: She is visiting another world and is unable to return to Alefgard. The boss of the faeries, the [[Dream-Whisperer]], was planning a summoning ritual to call Rubiss back to Her world but before the faeries could gather the necessary materials they were attacked by monsters and the Dream-Whisperer disappeared. The Arm-Twister and the Day-Dreamer entered the Craggy Cave to look for her as its the near the [[Faerie Village]] to the southeast. The Day-Dreamer interjects by saying her boss has had dealings with the [[dwarves]] living in their [[Cave of the Dwarves\|eastern cave]] in the past and that they might know of her whereabouts, but the monster horde has made it too dangerous for the faeries to make the journey themselves. The Arm-Twister then lives up to her name and...coerces the Hero into agreeing to pay the short folk a visit on their behalf. Satisfied, the two faeries then leave ahead of him to their village.

			Returning to the top floor of the cave, the Hero finds Robbin' 'Ood and his gang fast asleep, having [[Snooze]] cast on them by the two faeries as they left. Astonished that the women of myth do indeed exist, the bandit snaps out of it as he notices the Hero and promptly rewards him the the thief's key for the safe return of the minion. Laughing heartily that the Hero is now in his debt the same way his forefather was the the bandit's own, Robbin' 'Ood declares the two of them mates and not to hesitate to beg for his help when he needs it before leaving the cave to plan his next heist.

			The Craggy Cave can be accessed as soon as the [[Scions of Erdrick]] obtain their [[ship]] in [[Rippleport]], but the monsters dwelling within are stronger than the surrounding areas by a noticeable degree and many of the treasures require the [[ultimate key]] to unlock, making an early visit inadvisable. The cave is home to the sole piece of [[orichalcum]] in the game, which is necessary to restore the [[faded blade]] into [[Erdrick's sword]] in [[Kol]]. The ingot of mythical metal can only be discovered once the Scions have spoken to a [[toughie]] in the ruins of [[Damdara]], who points them to the scholar of [[Cantlin]]. The learned one informs the four children that he knows a single chunk of orichalcum was unearthed in the entire world, and that it fell into the hands of none other than Robbin' 'Ood's descendant not long after the Hero departed with Princess Gwaelin to found their own kingdom one century prior. He suggests visiting the jail in the church of the [[Tantegel]] castle town to find its precise location, noting how the thieves of modern day idolize the brute.

			The scholar's hunch is right, and the prisoner in the church's second-storey cell regales the children of how Robbin' 'Ood and the Hero were the best of friends, with the bandit stealing the orichalcum so that he could gift it to the Hero should they ever meet again. He concludes by saying that the metal is stored in the same cave where the two declared their fast friendship; this spawns the orichalcum in the small chamber on the craggy Cave's basement floor, noted by an obvious sparkle.
