The Weeping Isle a a dungeon added to the HD remake of the original Dragon Quest. It is a rocky, wave-beaten peninsula attached to the island east of Cantlin that held no landmarks or treasures in past iterations of the game, giving the player a reason to traverse the formerly-barren region of Alefgard.

Appearances
DQ1HD
The Weeping Isle is the base of Spiketail, the most wretched and efficient of the Dragonlord's servants and the one responsible for destroying Damdara as well as corrupting the Golem protecting Cantlin during his raid on the fortress city. It was during this raid that he made off with the sword of the fabled Hero and his shield, delivering the former to the Dragonlord's Castle and leaving the latter on the Weeping Isle in a chest that requires the ultimate key to open. Being a variant of the common dragonfry and thus having wings, the crafty bastard saw fit to destroy the bridge leading to the Weeping Isle.

The Hero 1 is first informed of the dungeon upon entering Cantlin after defeating the malfunctioning Golem. The citizens inform him that they were only sparred certain death by the quick thinking of the resident priest, who tricked Spiketail by claiming that many more powerful artefacts remain for the Hero to make use of in his war against the Dragonlord and only he knew their locations. Thoroughly fooled, Spiketail ordered his forces to fly the priest to the Weeping Isle so the information can be tortured out of him. The Protector of Cantlin laments that with the bridge to the island destroyed, even the Hero will be unable to rescue the priest. Fortunately the Hero had forged an unlikely friendship with the dwarves after saving a Dwarven Craftsman from certain death earlier in the adventure; the short folk are all too happy to return the favor and assemble a new bridge in less than a day.

As the Hero explores the island cave he will overhear the priest being tortured by Spiketail at several points. The old man refuses to give in, but the monster plays his ace: he brings out the priest's merchant son, the lone survivor of Damdara, and threatens his life if the priest doesn't tell him where the other sacred relics are. The priest agrees to reveal the location of the one relic he does know of, the ultimate key, in echange for the life of his son. Spiketail reneges on the deal immediately and mocks the priest for trusting him, telling the old man his mission is to eradicate all humans period, and kills him with his fire breath. Before Spiketail can kill the priest's son, the Hero bursts on to the scene and engages the monster's entourage of dragonflies. Witnessing his bodyguards be sliced to ribbons, Spiketail trembles in fear and runs for his miserable life.

The priest's son begs his father's forgiveness, but the old man tells him that his wellbeing is all he could have hoped for in their dire circumstances. The priest thanks the Hero for saving his son, and apologizes for allowing the sacred sword and shield of his ancestor to fall into the hands of the monsters. The priest breathes his last and the Hero escorts his son home so a proper funeral can be held. Later, after the ultimate key has been obtained by killing Spiketail in Kol, the player needs to return to the Weeping Isle to retrieve Erdrick's shield from the outer section of the dungeon. The jar of stardust, necessary for the Craft-Master to create the star sigil in the Faerie Village, can also be found in the Weeping Isle and can be retrieved at any time.
