'''Kiefer''' is the prince of [[Estard]] and is the {{Hero 7}}'s best friend in the game {{DQ7}}. Much like [[Terry]] before him, a young Kiefer appeared as the main character of ''[[Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart]]'', as well.

He has also made regular appearance in spinoff games, such as ''[[Itadaki Street Portable]]'', ''[[Dragon Quest Rivals]]'', and appears as a special hero character in ''[[Dragon Quest Tact]]''.

Kiefer is a young man with fair skin, roguish good looks, blue eyes, and messy blond hair. He is noticeably taller than the Hero and Maribel, which is especially apparent in the Nintendo 3DS version. He wears a red prince's tunic with blue slashes, grey leggings tucked into red socks, black leather boots and gloves, and carries a longsword in a scabbard on his back.

 

When the party meets the nomadic [[Roamers]], Kiefer's attitude changes. He meets the dancer Lala and falls in love. He begins to see his destiny with the vagabonds.

The Roamers celebrate their new dancer with singing, dancing, and wine. Lala, however, is distant and hides in her tent. The {{Hero 7}} and Kiefer enter the tent with some Spirit of the Dance, a powerful wine. Kiefer asks her why she isn't celebrating with the others. She tells them that she doesn't feel like it. Lala asks her where they are from, to which he replies [[Estard]]. She asks where it is and he responds that it is out in the ocean. He tells her that there is a prince in that castle who loves to weasel out of his responsibilities. Lala tells him that she can relate, to the surprise of Kiefer.

Rom Baro reprimands Lala for performing with a sprained ankle, saying that she could have hurt herself. Kiefer defends her by saying to let things go and what is done is done, to the relief of Lala.

On January 7th, 2011, Kiefer began appearing one of the special guests at the [[Quester's Rest]] in [[Stornway]] as part of a downloadable update when the [[DQVC]] was still available using Nintendo's Wi-Fi Channel. Kiefer will give the {{Hero 9}} different pieces of his outfit for fulfilling certain conditions.

The player will receive the [[Accolade]] '''Reckless Royal''' if the Hero wears all parts of Kiefer's costume.

Kiefer appears as an A-rank character of the Hero family as part of the limited Dragon Quest VII event, where he can be recruited during the event's story. He joins the player in Chapter 1, Episode 4: Kiefer and he can be fully awakened by exchanging DQVII medals for Kiefer Crystals in the event's swap shop.
