Payback Mode is a special feature in Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors which allows the player to begin a new game with the ultra-powerful Deathbringer sword. This feature is only unlocked after playing the game in the normal mode and defeating the most powerful boss, Edahs 'Sophix.

Until Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below, this feature marked the first time a 'New Game+' feature has been available in a Dragon Quest game.
