Throwdown is a recurring attack in the Dragon Quest series commonly used by bosses where they grab a character and slam them into the ground violently. The damage is usually calculated by dividing the user's normal attack damage by two and adding a fixed amount of damage which ignores the target's defence.

Appearances

Dragon Quest IV

In remakes of the game, Aamon can use a crushing attack on a single character. The damage is calculated by Aamon's attack damage divided by 2 plus a bonus 150 damage.

Dragon Quest VI

When Mortamor changes to his final form, his left and right hands can use an attack that sinks their talons into a single character. The damage is calculated as (Normal attack damage ÷ 2 + 100) in the original Super Famicom version. In remake versions of the game, the fixed amount of damage is increased to 150.

Dragon Quest VII

In the final battle against Orgodemir, he can use a slamming attack in his third form. The damage is calculated by his attack damage divided by 2 plus 150 fixed damage.

Dragon Quest VIII

The Divine dragon can use an attack where he sinks his talons into a character and slams them into the ground. The damage is calculated by his attack damage divided by 2 plus a bonus 150 damage.

Dragon Quest IX

When faced as a legacy boss, Mortamor can use the slamming attack with his Left and Right Claws. When used it is described as "a slap round the chops" and deals 150% damage to a single character.

Dragon Quest Tact

Throwdown is an enemy-only skill that can be used by Bjørn the Behemoose during his Mega Boss Battle and costs 30 MP to use. It inflicts major martial damage on all units in the outer two rows on both sides of the stage and has a chance to bind them.
