The Dragooner is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest IV. It is a knight that patrols the demon world on the back of its trusty dragon steed.
Characteristics[edit]
Dragooners are warriors clad in dark pink armour mounted on the backs of purple winged dragons. They wear horned helmets with a visor that obscures their eyes, their long purple hair flowing in the wind. In their right hands, they wield longswords while they use their left hands to hold on to the reins that control their mounts. Their dragons have curved horns like a bull and solid orange eyes. As the monster is two separate creatures, rider and mount often have the ability to act twice in a single turn. The dragons are able to send parties of adventures to sleep with sweet-smelling breath or exhale ice-cold blasts to freeze them solid. Their dragon mounts also gives them a vulnerability to dragon-slaying measures such as the Dragonsbane or Dragon Slash.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]
Dragon Quest X[edit]
Dragooners don't reappear in the game due to the Guardian vocation appearing in the game from 6.4 onwards.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]
- If a dragooner is sparkling, its mount can be ridden after defeating it in battle. The dragooner's mount allows the player to fly freely in the air by flapping its wings, allowing for movement in all three dimensions. In the Nintendo 3DS version and 2D modes of the Definitive Edition, the mount allows the player to traverse across large holes and can move freely between floors by riding on air currents.
