==Etymology==
It first appeared as a {{Grotto}} boss in {{DQ9}} but was later regulated as an enemy.
His name originates from an astronomic term "Equinox", referring to the moment when the sun reaches one of two intersections between the [[wikipedia:Ecliptic|ecliptic]] and the [[wikipedia:celestial equator|celestial equator]].
 
==Characteristics==
The Equinox is based on the mythological Ki-rin (麒麟), a fabled horse with the head and scales of a dragon. These creatures have a much more sinister colour tone than their pallet swaps, having pure white eyes, black body scales with teal scales covering the flank and shoulders, and hooves that are surrounded by a ghostly blue aura.
