The Flying Carpet is able to fly over [[List of world map terrain in Dragon Quest series#land|land]], swamps, deserts, and bodies of water, but is unable to fly high enough to glide over mountains and can be cumbersome to use in forested areas.  No random enemy [[encounter]]s occur while riding the Magic Carpet. Since it can fly over the rocky shoals, the carpet is necessary to reach areas such as the [[Stairway to Zenithia]] and the [[Neverglade]].
