Aktemto is a mining town in Dragon Warrior IV in which most of the people are sick due to digging far into the earth and uncovering Esturk's palace -- releasing poison gas, which flooded the mine and the town itself.
This town is visited several times over the course of the game, steadily worsening in condition as more of the miners and others become sick or die. This can be attributed to the poison gas released from the mine, and then there's the monsters...
