The metal chimaera is a monster, originally exclusive to the remakes of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation, but later also included in the Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake.

| Metal chimaera | |
| |
| Japanese | メタルキメラ |
| Romaji | Metarukimera |
| First appearance | Dragon Quest III |
| Old localization | Mtlwyvern |
Though it is quick and has high defensive stats, it doesn't quite live up to the metal moniker. It doesn't run away, can be hit for double-digit or triple-digit damage, and is vulnerable to some magic. With only 150-220 HP, a spell like Kazap with a Duplic Hat will make short work of it, even with its 75% Lightning resistance. The amount of experience it gives at the stage of the game where it is encountered is not particularly high, relatively speaking, especially when liquid metal slimes are encountered much sooner and give more experience.
On the other hand, its breath attacks can be quite powerful, especially compared to the magic usually available to metal monsters.
