===== Square Enix and Nintendo Abandon Dragon Quest in North America =====
As of 2013, Square Enix and Nintendo have abandoned Dragon Quest in North America and Europe, based on the poor sales of Dragon Quest X on the Wii U in Japan.  No titles have been identified as in development with a targeted western release.  Due to mis-management and the poor decision in making Dragon Quest X an online-only, subscription game, North America and Europe are entering a second "dark age" for Dragon Quest similar to 1992-1999.  This wiki has moved into a mostly hibernation state due to lack of new available content.  All of the momentum generated by the strong [[Dragon Quest IX]] sales in the summer of 2010 has been wasted by a Square Enix team that could not capitalize on its success in the larger western market.
