A basic vocation system is available to Lazarel and Teresa. Both characters begin in the warrior vocation, but either can become a mage, priest, martial artist or thief, and later gain access to the advanced vocations gladiator and sage. Both of the heroes' vocations can be changed, regardless of which one the player chose to be the main protagonist. Several weapon types are available to each vocation, allowing the heroes access to the movesets of most of the playable characters, including some from characters who appeared in the original DQH but were left out of the sequel's story mode.
