Freezing fog

Revision as of 18:23, 18 December 2023 by 67.81.251.39 (talk)

Freezing fog are recurring monsters in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation.

They are ice-elemental variants of the Cumaulus.

Characteristics

The floating, fun-sucking Freezing fog rains crushing Chilly Breath down on the battlefield, followed by engulfing foes in its icy embrace. Occasionally they'll keep their cool by just breathing a far less deadly Cool Breath. The cold clouds are colored in various shades of blue to set them apart from their gaseous cousins.

Etymology

  • English: Freezing fog is the name of a meteorological phenomenon that occurs when liquid fog droplets freeze to surfaces, forming rime. It is common on mountaintops that are exposed to low clouds.
  • Japanese: As with Cumaulus and Hell niño, Frost Gizmo is derived from Gaseous Lifeform Gizmo (ガス状生物ギズモ), a science-fiction story originally known as War with the Gizmos, written by American writer Murray Leinster. It was published in Japan in 1969.
