Coffinwell is a town in Dragon Quest IX. It is located to the northeast of Stornway. With a great deal of high stone-made walls, the town's design is similar to that of an fortress, and is shaped as a shield. The Mayor's house is the highest house in the town. Staircases can be seen around the town.

Initially, its residents have contracted a deadly disease which is plaguing the entire town. The sickness is related to the nearby Quarantomb.
Poor old Doug in Coffinwell has had his feelings hurt by his granddaughter, who said he looked like a slugger. He wants you to make him feel better by going just outside town and battering ten of them.
A poet in Coffinwell called Earnest wants you to find him a bolt of Technicolour dreamcloth. Once you've found it, he wants you to present it to the nun in the church, along with a love poem he wrote for her.
Mrs. Tofferton, the richest lady in Coffinwell, wants you to find her a beardy weirdy. Apparently, it's fashionable among certain circles to keep one as a pet.
Hint for solution
Defeat a treevil with Stone's Throw. If the beardy weirdy's beard is less than 100 cm long, it will not count toward completing the quest. This quest is repeatable.
Dominique from Coffinwell wants you to help her son pass his all-important entrance examination. All you need to do is find a platinum sword, platinum shield, some platinum mail, and some platinum headgear.
Dr Phlegming needs your help to decipher an old manuscript detailing historical links between Coffinwell and the Gittish Empire. He wants you to try and find a book on the Gittish Empire for him.
A with other towns in Dragon Quest IX, Coffinwell is named for its relation to the plot of the game. "Coffinwell" is actually a pun ("coughing" "well") on the town's sickness.
Coffinwell also has the word"Coffin", hinting towards the people killed by the virus.
The archeologist in Coffinwell is named Dr. Phlegming, this is a play on "phlegm"(the mucus created from coughing) and "Fleming"(the discoverer of penicillin).
The name of a notable NPC in Coffinwell, Catarrhina, is a pun on the term "catarrh."[1]
The name of the mayor is also a pun. "Mayor Laria", is a play on malaria, another disease.
