Boatman's Bone
The boatman's bone is an item in Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation. This macabre reminder of the dangers of seafaring guides the player towards the dreaded phantom ship that haunts the world's oceans.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of SalvationEdit
The old man at the shrine of Grimland has the femur, but will only hand it over in exchange for the mod rod. Using the bone tells you how far away up/down and left/right the ship is. The ship itself begins roaming in the ocean from the start of the game.

In the HD-2D remake, the ship doesn't appear until you use the Boatman's Bone, at which point it handily shows up on your map. As such, the Boatman's Bone no longer gives the ship's distance.
