A Dream Scenario is an event that the young Hero undergoes before beginning his/her journey in Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation.

Absent from the Nintendo Entertainment System version of the game, these events are present in all of the remakes from the Super Famicom to the Nintendo Switch remakes of Dragon Quest III.

Beginning

The Hero (or rather the player) is asked by a voice to give his/her real name, plus month and day of birth.

Afterwards The Hero is asked a series of random questions with which the dream given is dependent on the answer given to some.

Castle Scenario

The hero awakens in a castle. They overhear the queen monologuing about her treacherous plans, which have led the king to order the invasion of a neighboring kingdom.

If the hero leaves the castle without resolving the situation, they will be given the Happy camper personality.

If the hero says no to both the chancellor and the king, they will be given the Good egg personality.

If the hero follows the king's orders, then they will be given the Lothario personality (if they are male) or the Vamp personality (if they are female).

If the hero ignores the king's orders, they will be given the Clown personality.

If, before leaving, the hero tells the chancellor a king's orders must be obeyed, contradict the first answer and say the orders are not set in stone, and confirm the second answer and say orders can be ignored (alternatively, they can say a king's orders don't have to be obeyed, confirm that a king's orders can be disobeyed, and again confirm that it's better to do what they see fit than blindly follow orders), they will be given the Wit personality.

Cave Scenario

The hero is trapped in a dungeon where they are instructed on the safest path by different signs.

If the hero ignores the first sign, they will be given the Narcissist personality.

If the hero ignores the second, third, or fourth sign, they will be given the Sore loser personality.

If the hero follows the signs, they will be given the Mule personality.

If the hero goes for the treasure, they will be given the Scatterbrain personality.

If the hero tries to save the girl, they will be given the Straight arrow personality.

Dancer Scenario

The hero awakens in a theater with four men who are watching a famous dancer on the stage. One of the patrons wants the hero to ask the dancer if they will marry him, but she is not so keen to go through with the engagement.

If the hero leaves without resolving the situation, they will be given the Free spirit personality.

If the hero says Yes, they will be given the Crybaby personality.

If the hero says No, they will be given the Lone wolf personality.

If the hero decides to play dumb, they will be given the Lout personality.

Desert Scenario

The hero finds themselves in the desert, and comes across two brothers who are lost. The older brother is injured and is insisting that the younger brother take the last of their water and leave him behind. Unsure of what to do, the younger brother turns to the hero.

If the hero encourages the younger brother to leave his sibling behind, they will be given the Thug personality.

If the hero tells the younger brother to leave the canteen behind, they will be given the Daredevil personality.

If the hero tells the younger brother to carry his older brother, they will be given the Idealist personality.

Forest Scenario

The hero awakens in a forest with an old man. The old man tells them that they can leave by going west and asks them to push any boulders that they find back to him.

If the hero ignores the task or only delivers one boulder, they will be given the Lazybones personality.

If the hero brings back 2 to 5 boulders, they will be given the Show-off personality.

If the hero brings back 6 to 19 boulders, they will be given the Plugger personality.

If the hero brings back 20 to 39 boulders, they will be given the Drudge personality.

If the hero brings back 40 or more boulders, they will be given the Tough cookie personality.

Monster Scenario

The hero has been transformed into a monster. They climb out of a well and find themselves in the middle of a town full of innocent people, where a man confronts them.

If the hero only kills the man and flees the town, they will be given the Paragon personality.

If the hero kills the nun but spares the child, they will be given the Wimp personality.

If the hero kills more than two people but spares the child and the nun, they will be given the Spoilt brat personality.

If the hero kills everyone except for the man hiding near the inn, they will be given the Klutz personality.

If the hero kills everyone, they will be given the Egghead personality.

Tower Scenario

The hero finds themselves on top of a tower with a bunch of people who are willing to test their courage by leaping from the roof.

If the hero leaves without jumping, they will be given the Socialite personality.

If the hero jumps from the tower, they will be given the Daydreamer personality.

Wallet Scenario

The hero finds themselves in a peaceful village. An old man is walking with his grandson when he realizes that he has forgotten his wallet at home. He asks the hero if they will retrieve it for him. Once the hero retrieves the wallet, they will be accused of thievery and taken to the nearest priest.

If the hero leaves the town without getting the wallet, they will be given the Shrinking violet personality.

If the hero pleads guilty, they will be given the Show-off personality.

If the hero pleads not guilty, they will be given the Slippery devil personality.

Conclusion

The voice determines the Hero's default personality by how he/she handles the dream.

After which states that the Hero will soon awake and that they will meet again someday.
