Red is a thief/pirate who was a old mate of Yangus's in Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King.
In the game, she gives Princess Medea and the wagon back to the party in exchange for a jewel found in the Swordsman's Labyrinth.
When the party gets the jewel, Yangus reveals that he tried to get that jewel earlier in hopes of impressing Red, but gave up due to the difficulty.
