Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker is the latest installment of the Monsters spin-off of the Dragon Quest series. It was released in North America by Square Enix in November 2007. It has processed the traditional style of Dragon Quest series as being a turn based game. You can still scout monster in here, synthesize them, and much more...

Gameplay

The game revolves around scouting and synthing the monsters in the game. To scout, your 1-3 monsters attack (without doing any damage) to try and impress the monsters. The percentage is only based on attack, and not on overall stats. To synth, you will need to have two level 10+ monsters with opposite "charges". To synth a plus you will need a minus, and vice versa. There is also a third charge, neutral. It can synth with a plus or minus, but not with another neutral. The monsters stats will depend on the parents. For example, if one monster has 500 attack and another has 300, it adds the stats to make 800. It is then divided by 4, to make a attack of 200. The monster will be at level 1. Each monster has a stat cap on each cap. For example, a Boss Troll might only be able to get 140 wisdom, while a Fencing Fox could have 650. You can set a monsters tactics in battle so that the A.I. can make the monsters decisions for you, or give orders directly.

Story

You are a spiky-haired kid, son of the legendary researcher Warden Trump who leads Cell HQ, and you are also his prisoner. He put you in jail for running off to join the Monster Scout Challenge, and now he is asking you to infiltrate it. He sends you off with a monster and you go to join the challenge. The Commisioner is Dr. Snap, another big researcher. He tells the competitors that the goal is to get ten pieces of a mineral called darkonium. He then says that once you get all ten, you ring the bell at Baden's Belfry and enter the finals. On the third island, you find a monster called the Incarnus. It is being attacked by an Orc, the first boss. Once you win, you take the Incarnus to the scout post and Dr. Snap walks in. He heals the monster and leaves. The Incarnus says it will join your team, as long as you help it go to 4 shrines and give it the reward for winning the challenge, the Scout's mark. This is the Basis of the story through the game.
