The Flython is a semi-recurring monster in the Series. Debuting in Dragon Quest VI, they gained proper dragon status in IX.

Characteristics

The Flython and their cousins are hybrids of three genus of real world snakes; they combine the size of Pythonidae, the head shape and fangs of Viperidae, and the hoods of Elapidae (cobras). The latter trait is a humorous exaggeration, however; where as a cobra uses its hood for intimidation and defence, the Flython uses them to set sail on air currents.

Chose 'sail serpent' because they thought it was cool, but now they worry that it makes a mockery of their massive ears.
