Dragon Quest VII

Backdraft is learned by reaching rank 2 of the Pirate, and 4 of the Hero, rank 7 of the Vigilantern, and rank 3 of the Prism Peacock vocations. It functions identically to the version seen in the DS remake of VI.

  • The passive vocation trait of the Prism Peacock activates Backdraft at the start of each turn, with the chance reaching it's cap of 12.5% (18) at rank 8.

Backdraft appears as an ability exclusive to animal allies. It covers all allies for 60 seconds, dissipates after the first hit, and is learned by the Chimaera, Mecha-mynah, and Small fry.

Dragon Quest Monsters

The skill reflects all fire and ice breath skills, status ailment breath skills, and Venom Mist for 6 MP. It requires the monster to be at least level 11, with 75 HP, 84 resilience, and 70 agility to learn. Jamirus, Hell Hornet, Raven Lunatic, Firebird, Pteranodon, and WingSlime all naturally learn the skill.

  • If a monster's level reaches 19 and it has at least 140 HP, 126 resilience, and 140 agility, then Backdraft will upgrade into Blowback (stormwind in the original localization). This improved skill covers the entire party and reflects a single enemy's breath attack to all enemies.
