Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

While the Hero and Erik get a cold reception from Doge Rotondo, Veronica's staff is stolen by young Benigno. The boy refuses to relinquish it, but Erik manages to snatch it from his hands. Benigno is reluctant to explain why he wanted the wand, but it soon becomes apparent that his friend Placido, the Doge's son, has lost his voice, and Benigno hoped to use a spell to restore it.

Serena examines Placido's throat and determines that the loss of his voice is the result of a curse. She says she would only be able to cure his condition with Birdsong nectar, which can only be made with water drawn from a sacred fountain. Luckily, Benigno knows about the Grotta della Fonte, which is home to very special water that might do the trick. The party travels to the cave, overcomes the pair of Coralossuses that guard the sacred water, and Serena mixes it with a few secret ingredients to make the needed nectar.

Back in Gondolia, Serena, Veronica and Sylvando take the the Birdsong nectar to Placido, while the Hero and Erik check out the Signor Universo contest, which is now in full swing. The Hero is ambushed by Jasper and a company of Heliodorian soldiers, and he is forced to retreat while Erik is injured and captured. The party hides out until night, when they sneak back to the stage to catch Jasper by himself. They manage to free Erik and leap on board the Salty Stallion, but Jasper summons a tentacular to sink them. However, the Doge comes through by frightening off the titanic squid with a fleet of Gondolian merchant ships as thanks for the party curing his son. Placido, now able to speak, reveals that he happened to see Jasper communicating with the tentacular, and was cursed by the knight to keep him quiet.
