Caduceus is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series. It serves as the skill equivalent of Midheal that is significantly less costly at the price of having a fixed range.
Localization history[edit]
Caduceus and Staff of Salvation are the same ability in Japanese, with the former seemingly being retired for a literal translation of the katakana for Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]
Caduceus is a staff technique that both Jessica Albert and Angelo can learn. It requires 57 skill points for Jessica to learn, and 48 skill points for Angelo. When used, HP is restored by 70~100 points for no MP cost and is unaffected by the character's Tension.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]
This ability is learned with 44 skill points invested into the Wand skill, and costs 2 MP to use. It restores one character's HP by 75~95 points.
Etymology[edit]
- A caduceus is a staff carried by the Greek messenger god Hermes. It is a short staff entwined with two serpents and often topped with a pair of wings and has become a representation or symbol of healing. Caduceus is often confused or conflated with the Rod of Asclepius, a staff entwined with only a single serpent associated with Asclepius, a Greek deity of healing and medicine.
