Chain mail
Chain Mail is a recurring armor in the Dragon Quest series. Light and easy to move about in, it will considerably lessen the damage that the enemy can inflict on you.

Dragon Quest I
They can be bought at Garinham and Cantlin/Mercado for 300 G. The wearer gains +10 defense when equipped.

Dragon Quest II
Can be sold for 292 gold bought for 480 gold in Leftwyne and Hamlin. It has a defense bonus of +12. The Hero and the Prince can equip it.
Dragon Quest III
Has defense bonus of +20. It can be sold for 360 gold and bought for 480 gold in Romaly and Assaram. Heroes, Soldiers, Pilgrims, Sages, and Merchants can equip it.
Dragon Quest IV
The chain mail has a defence bonus of +18. Can be sold for 262 gold and bought for 350 gold in Burland, Izmit, Lakanaba, Endor, Frenor, and Branca. The Hero, Cristo, Ragnar, Taloon, and Alena can equip it.
Dragon Quest V
The chain mail has a defence bonus of +19. It can be sold for 375 gold and bought for 500 gold. Harry, Pippin, Centaurus, Eigerhorn, Lionex, Messala, Slime Knight, Soldier Bull, and Springer can equip it.
Dragon Quest VI
Has defense bonus of +19. They can be bought in Reidock for 500 gold.
Dragon Quest VII
Has defense bonus of +20. They can be bought for 1,050 gold and sold for 525 gold. The Hero, Kiefer, Melvin, and Aira can equip it.
Dragon Quest VIII
The chain mail has a defence bonus of +20. Only Yangus can equip it. They can be bought for 500 gold and sold for 250 gold. Described in game as "A comfortable and lightweight suit of armour constructed from innumberable metal links."
