Cherry Blossom Blizzard's Japanese name Sakura fubuki (桜吹雪) is a term used to describe the gentle drifting of cherry blossom petals falling to the ground in the wind, which has the appearance of snowflakes during a blizzard. It is a regular part of hanami, the custom of flower viewing during springtime in Japan. Cherry blossoms, or sakura, were often likened to samurai during the medieval Japanese period due to the beautiful, but fleeting nature of their existence.
