The Death Necklace is a cursed item from Dragon Quest.
Appearance
Dragon Quest
The Death necklace can occasionally be found in the Mountain Cave. If located, one should sell the item for 1,200G as equipping it will make the Hero cursed.
Like the Cursed belt, the necklace prevents The Hero from entering Tantegel Castle. The only way to remove the Death Necklace is to find the old man in Brecconary.

Captain N: The Game Master
The Cursed necklace turns the wearer into a target for the legendary Golden Dragon. It's placed on Simon Belmont by The Dragonlord as a means of getting rid of him and The N Team.
Simon was able to remove it through the use of some Fairy water, and tossed it onto The Dragonlord, who was forced to destroy the dragon as a result.
