Dragon Quest VIII is the eighth Dragon Quest role-playing game in the series published by Square Enix released in North America on the Playstation 2. It is the first game of the series to be in full 3D.

Story

The story of Dragon Quest VIII begins with the hero, Yangus, King Trode, and Princess Media who are on their way to see a fortuneteller who can tell them where Dhoulmagus is. The reason for seeking him is that Dhoulmagus cursed King Trode, his daughter, and his kingdom and all the people in it. King Trode was turned into a monster while his daughter was turned into a horse. His castle was covered and vines and the people turned into part of the plantlife. The story of the game revolves around the hero and his friends and their quest to find Dhoulmagus and undo his vile curse.

Characters

Hero - The hero was once a normal soldier at Trodain but after Dhoulmagus put of curse on the castle and everyone in it he ventures out with King Trode and the princess to find Dhoulmagus and return things to normal. There is much mystery about how he escaped the effects of Dhoulmagus's curse.

Jessica - Jessica is a young woman who trying to figure out what happened to her brother. When she learns that he was killed by Dhoulmagus she joins up with the hero in order to avenge her brother.

Trode - Trode was the king of Trodain, who was turned into a monster by Dhoulmagus, and his daughter -the princess- was turned into a horse. Version Differences

The differences in the japanese and north american versions are probably greater in Dragon Quest VIII than in any of the other games. The changes in the north american version include new spell names, voice acting, an orchestrated sound track, and a different menu system.
