Dragon Quest VIII is the eighth Dragon Quest role-playing game in the series published by Square Enix released in North America on the Playstation 2. It is the first game of the series to be in full 3D.
Story
Gameplay
Dragon Quest 8 is a turn based RPG that carries on the spirit of its predecessors but makes some major advances in several areas. The biggest change is the graphical style of the game. Rather than being sprite based the world and characters of Dragon Quest 8 are cell shaded 3D models. The world of Dragon Quest VIII is fully explorable allowing players to freely traverse the land while they travel on their journey offering an experience many or no other Playstation 2 rpgs were able to offer.
Battles are still random and turn based but some monsters can be encountered by running into them on the field. Unlike previous entries players are now able to see their character's actions in battle as well as the monsters attacks on your party. Instead of a class system like some of the previous Dragon Quest games you can spend points to gain proficiency in weapons as you level up allowing you to learn new spells and skills. The alchemy pot was also introduced in this game allowing you to mix items together to create new and better items and equipment.
