Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate (ドラゴンクエストXII 選ばれし運命の炎 Doragon Kuesuto Toerubu Erabareshi Unmei no Honoo)is the twelfth main Dragon Quest series game. The game was announced on May 27th, 2021, the 35th anniversary of the Dragon Quest series in a YouTube livestream. The game is planned to have a simultaneous worldwide release though no specific date was given. The platforms that game will be released on have not yet been disclosed, and no gameplay footage has been released.

Very little is known about the game, however Yuji Horii stated that the game will be much "darker" and adult-themed, will put more focus on decision-making, and have a revamped combat system, though specific details were not given. In September of 2021 an exploit in NVIDIA's GeForce Now service revealed a PC release to be in development. After the franchise's character and monster designer, Akira Toriyama, passed away in March, 1st, 2024. Dragon Quest XII would it make it as the last recent mainline entry to have the franchise's character and monster designer Akira Toriyama involved in the Dragon Quest mainline entry.
