Dragon Quest III

The ethereal serpent originates in this game, and can be fought at the Tower of Transcendence, as well as on the overworld map between Mur and Jipang and in the dense forest continent where Erdrick might find an Yggdrasil Leaf. Later on, variants of the dragon are encountered, including the divine dragon, Xenlon.

Dragon Quest Monsters

The ethereal serpent, translated in GBC releases ask SkyDragon, is a teleportal boss enemy of the Dragon family at the bottom of the Gate of Wisdom. The ethereal serpent's boss floor design is a reference to the Tower of Transcendence and the Fifer's Spire, two dungeons in the Dragon Quest III that utilize tight-rope puzzles like the later Gate of Wisdom. Of note, the first location where ethereal serpents can fought in that game is at the Tower of Transcendence. Ethereal serpents can be synthesized by breeding a member of the Dragon family with a firebird. Of note, the ethereal serpent is necessary for synthesizing it's more powerful color variant, Xenlon.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2

The ethereal serpent is a monster recruitable in the game. Ethereal serpents can be synthesized by breeding a member of the Dragon family with a firebird.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2

The ethereal serpent is a Rank B monster in Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2. It takes up two monster spaces in battle. It can be synthesized by mixing a hacksaurus with a jum.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional

As a revision of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2, the ethereal serpent plays the same role it had in the earlier version of the game.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D

As a remake of the original Dragon Quest Monsters game, the ethereal serpent plays the same role in this title it did on the Game Boy Color – as the boss of the Gate of Wisdom.
