Fissure

Fissure is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series. The skill attempt to open up a chasm to send enemies to their doom. It must be noted that the animation shows a sucking vortex pulling enemies into the gorge, which explains why the skill is effective against flying foes.

AppearancesEdit

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of RevelationEdit

Fissure is learned by advancing to Rank 5 of the Sage vocation. The skill is a free version of Kathwack, utilizing the same resistance table. It is useful for players that prefer to conserve MP, but there is a 33% chance for the skill to fail regardless of its target's vulnerability, and cannot be used while at sea.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten PastEdit

In the original PSX version and the 3DS remake, Fissure can only be learned by reaching rank 4 of the Golem vocation and it possesses the same aspects as in VI. The only enemy who uses it is the Earth Spirit.

Dragon Quest XEdit

Druids learn Fissure by allocating 56 skill points into their 召喚 (Summoning) skill tree. It costs 16 MP to perform and damages all enemies in a straight line with jagged spires of rocks, dealing 90~120 base damage. Damage is calculated as (Magical might-200) × 0.7 + 90~120 for a limit of 895~925 at 1,350 magical might. Additionally, there is a 33% chance for any enemy hit with the skill to have their Lightning resistance lowered by 25% for 30 seconds.
