Gigagash is a recurring, group-targeting sword skill in the Dragon Quest series.

The technique first appeared in the manga Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken as an attack used by the dragon knight Baran, and was later included in the main series starting with Dragon Quest VIII.

Characteristics

Gigagash is an even more powerful version of the Gigaslash skill, and requires a large skill point investment before it can be used. The user channels their power through both arms instead of their prime laterality. Furthermore, the power radiating from the ethereal blades shines more brilliantly than before.

Appearances

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai

Gigagash, retaining its Japanese name of "Gigabreak" in most localisations, is one of Baran's strongest techniques. After using his Dragon Knight abilities to imbue his blade with the powers of both a Kazap (JP: Gigadein) spell and his own Draconic Aura, he performs a two-handed downward slash with all of his strength. This technique can only be performed with a sword crafted from legendary materials such as orichalcum, as its sheer power will cause lesser weapons to disintegrate. Both Baran and Dai have also performed a weaker version of this technique using a Zapple spell instead.

After Dai gains the ability to cast Kazap, he combines Gigabreak with his own sword technique Avan Strash, creating the Giga Strash (which served as the model for Gigaslash in later games).

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King

The Hero can learn Gigagash as a sword technique after fully investing 100 skill points into both the "Sword" and "Courage" skills, replacing Gigaslash. Despite the requirements, the skill can be used with any weapon equipped, and even bare-handed.

Damage is calculated as level+222~282, capping at level 47 for a maximum range of 271~331.

An enemy version of the skill can be used by Estark in the 3DS version of the game, it does 1000-1200 damage to a single character, effectively killing them.

To use Gigagash, a character must both equip a sword and be carrying Swordcraft in Summary: the book awarded by the level 40 Sword Skill quest. Its damage output is a base of 185~335 and a maximum range of 445~595, and the caveat about its usability applies with even greater force. Damage improves as the user's magical might and strength increase.

Dragon Quest X

Gigagash can be learned by Warriors, Armamentalists, and Gladiators by investing 140 points into the One-handed Sword skill. It costs 12 MP to use and has a charge time of 60 seconds. It deals around 500 light-attribute damage to any surrounding enemies.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

The Hero will learn the skill for 36 points through his Swordmastery skill tree. It costs a massive 32 MP to use, but deals up to 390~430 lightning damage to all enemies.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker
